Nexus 7... meaning 7" diagonally.

Screen resolution is 1920 x 1200, meaning the length x width dimensions are approximately 5.93" x 3.70".

I find the size to be perfect for me; holding vertical is great for reading books, magazines, and online articles; horizontal is great for games, movies, and web browsing.

I can't say enough about the quality of the screen... it doesn't get any better than this for a tablet of this size.  HD movies look amazing!

Does this have a slot for an SD card to expand the memory? I'm sure most of that 32Gb is taken up with the OS and useless apps, etc.

The Nexus 7 FHD (2013) does not have an SD card slot, but it does have the ability to use an external USB drive storage device with the help of a small inexpensive adapter cable that you plug into the tablet's micro USB charging plug. I have configured my nexus 7 2013 to use external flash drives (actually anything that can connect via usb that does not require high power that must be supplied by usb directly)

The key is the Nexus 7's support for the "usb otg" standard and a specific "usb otg" cable.  (otg = on the go).   Before the Nexus kit-kat OS upgrade you needed to root your device in order to get otg support without paying for an app to get the support.   After Kit-kat, that is no longer the case.

The key part of otg is that the protocol allows a device (e.g. the Nexus 7), that typically acts as a client when connected to a computer, to recognize that it must act as the host when a specific type of device is connected to it.

The process to connect a USB device to another usb device is: connect the usb otg cable to the device that will be the "host" (usually via the micro usb male connector) then plug the USB device into the cable typically a usb type A female connector.  A word of caution - be sure to "eject" the USB storage device or power off the Tablet before removing the storage device.  I ended up having to reformat a thumb drive that would no longer accept data after unplugging it without "ejecting" it first.

There are ways to replace the battery. But only by a qualified tech. If you go to you tube you can look it up. With that said.

I have several tablets in the family, we have never had a problem getting through the day, unless you watch netflix all day long.
I purchased the Nexus 7 2012 first, loves it so much I bought the nexus 7 2013,

I can run audio, with bluetooth, and wi-fi for 12 hours continual with no problem. But little display use, for full 12 hour use.

These things are truly amazing.

no way to know for sure, but they do have a 90 warranty to be working correctly.  i order 2 of them both are working flawlessly.
dont be afraid to order refurbished ones.  besides if there is a problem newegg is easy to work with and have great customer service.

You need a special OTG USB cable (I've not tried it myself, just from what I've studied up on) otherwise you'd need to root the device and then it would work with just a standard USB to microUSB adapter.
