Does this come with a 64 bit version of Windows?

It does.  I really enjoy the machine for my work (photography). My biggest problem is the touch mouse. It's a little too sensitive.

I am not sure if it can be replaced but it probably can. However, the hybrid drive is awesome by itself. I would not waste your money doing that. This hybrid drive is fast. and also larger than any ssd you could put in there.

The drive is a BD-RE. Which Means that it is a a recordable (RE) drive. It can write to BD-RE discs.

Yes. I can't stand Windows 8.x, so I purchased Start8, which is a Windows 8.x GUI replacement shell. It makes Windows 8.x look and work like Windows 7.

Not that I am aware of. I have not fully explored all features about this laptop as of yet. I plan to use this laptop with my real estate business as a realtor for Coldwell Banker.

Matte or glossy screen? How is the picture quality?

Yes, the screen is glossy.  I'd have preferred matte but the machine met every other 'wish' I wanted and the pricing was very good for how packed the laptop is.  
Picture quality is GREAT due to the 2gb dedicated video.

newegg describes this computer with a blue ray burner and backlit keyboard, whereas another seller describes it with a DVDRW optical drive and AccuType Keyboard...which are the correct specifications?

Carol, the Lenovo ideapad Z710 has a bluray player but the burner is DVDRW.  The keyboard backlight can be toggled on/off when you hold the Function key and Space Bar down.  I believe AccuType implies the keys are slightly concave.  The Z710 keys are flat.
