This laptop is NOT touchscreen. I have went through quite a few gaming (and comparable) laptops and I must say I have been extremely pleased with this product. The specs for the price are really hard to beat. The screen is beautiful and really delivers 4k. There is a little bit of corner shadowing but nothing to get crazy about. Most games play very well at medium settings on 1080p, like Borderlands the pre-sequel. While games that require less power play well at full settings like Diablo 3 and Ultra Street Fighter IV even running on 4k. There will be skips and frame rate drops in any of these games if you have anything running in the background. The build quality is decent but not as sturdy as say some of the other brick gaming laptops. I do treat it with much care.

No, only the Microsoft Shop version has touch screen and 4k as far as I know.

Is the display matte or gloss?  Is the backlight bleed-through mentioned in some reviews present on all or only some models?

The Display on the Y50 4K (59425943) is Glossy. As far as backlight bleedthrough is concerned, my family and I have not had a problem with this issue particular model. 
The only time I saw any perceivable bleedthrough was during the boot when the “Lenovo” screen appeared. It’s all black with the word Lenovo in the middle in white and it appears the brightness cranks up a few notches during this same time so the black seemed a little washed out around the white lettering and around the screen’s edges. 
As for real world use, the display works great for us (abet some reflections due to the glossy screen). For movies and picture viewing, the display had rich blacks and bright vibrant colors.  
Before buying this model I read several reviews referring to the "touch screen" display version having this problem.

Would want to know if this is good for a graphic designer. If it has a nice true-color screen. ANd if the cooling systme works well?

Performance is great on this laptop, it's powerful enough to perform any graphic intensive operation. But the screen has two key issues. It  has 48 Hz refresh rate instead of 60 (noticeable in gaming and scrolling) and yellow color reproduction is very bad. But the screen itself is razer sharp and stunning. So if you can live with bad yellow reproduction (search notebookreview forums for picture comparison or have an external display), this is the perfect laptop. Cooling is very good, my temps never rise above 75 when playing BF4! WIFI is also good.

Does the 256 ssd enough to run the laptop with a few exta games on it? Skyrim, LoL, borderlands, etc

Yes. There is a bit over 200GB free after the Win 8.1 install that comes on it. If it's not big enough, go with the hybrid drive option, or just get whatever is the cheapest drive choice, pull it out and put whatever drive you want in it. The guide to replacing the drive is simple, however you will obviously need another OS, unless you clone the drive and put it's image on the replacement you drop in.

Alternately you could get an external USB 3.0 drive and use that for storage as well.

I can't seem to decipher a straight answer by reading all the Reviews.

Yes/No: Can I ignore the fact that the display is 4k... set it to 1920x1080, and have it run Photoshop, League of Legends, and whatever else - seamlessly? Or will there be weird issues?

Yes, you can do it. 
I use ps, in, illustrator, autocad, etc.. but my desktop resolution is 1920x1080. I tried use 4k but the I had "weird issues". It's because 15,6" screen is too small for a huge resolution, then I use 1920x1080. 
I play HoN in this resolution and it's amazing, ultra graphics and its perfect.

Does it have HD or just SSD? 
Is it possible to have additional HD as outside drive? 
Is it possible to add another 16GB RAM to this laptop?

The model I bought had a 250GB SSD drive. I've found that to not be enough due to installing a ton of games.

The laptop has two USB 3.0 ports that you could plug a good external hard drive into.

It is not possible to add 16GB of Ram as the motherboard only supports up to 16GB, that being said 16GB is plenty! I've been running top of the line games and software like Adobe Photoshop/Adobe Premiere/Aftereffects without any hiccups or long waits. I've never had an issue multitasking with my machine.

It is possible to put Windows 7, but this machine comes with Windows 8.1 installed. In order to put Windows 7 on this machine I might recommend buying an OEM version of Windows 7. I debated doing it myself but Windows 8.1 isn't too awful and I decided I could live with it for now.

Additional suggestions:
Know that the monitor is a 4k monitor and looks gorgeous, but also know that running most apps in 4k at this point isn't always reasonable as they tend not upscale it so they appear as tiny windows until you drop down to 1080p. This will change in the future but applications like Orgin, or Adobe Products that aren't Photoshop/Illustrator don't support 4k so I have to switch to 1080p when using them.

Hard Drive Size: 
Like I mentioned the SSD ended up being too tiny. I bought a high capacity 128GB SDXC card that made a world of difference but I might just recommend putting in a WD2 Black hybrid drive. It's a 1TB drive that is part SSD and part HD but giving you enough swap space to run your important apps on SSD and storing the rest on the HD.

Touchpad:
The touchpad needs some tweaking when you first get it. If you keep windows 8.1 go into the mouse options and their is a setting that needs to be disabled that has to do with clicking and using the touchpad. Then within the touchpad settings you might disable gestures (drove me crazy) and increase sensitivity. Just my preference.
