Can I connect an external monitor to this system?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but only via HDMI.  That means that you can send the out put of your laptop to any screen that supports HDMI, like your 40" HDTV.  I do that all the time playing Alien: Isolation.

But this laptop does not have a DVI or VGA output.  If your monitor does not have an HDMI port, you can get a HDMI/DVI adapter pretty cheap, probably right here at Newegg.

So the short answer is yes, but the fine print is that the monitor must support HDMI, which most new ones do.

Does this laptop(Lenovo Y50 (59426157)) have an HDMI Port? Specifically this model. Planning to buy this one.

I am looking for a laptop to play real time strategy games on. Will this laptop be up for the task? (I might get the 16gb Ram version)

I guess it depends. I've played Starcraft 2, Civ 2, 4 and 5, Warcraft 3, and a few other random RT Strat games on steam. It works beautifully and I've never experienced any performance or lag issues. But all of those games were made in or before 2010. I've played a few AAA games that have been made more recently and it's been able to handle it just fine. I'm not sure what games you're wanting to play though. But I will say this: I'm consistently impressed by what this computer can handle for money I spent on it.

My power is limited where I'm staying currently, so I have to make sure the power adapter won't suck too much power. Is this a ranged adapter? If so what is the range, please..

I don't know what a "ranged power adapter" is. The power adapter for this is a normal 125 Watt power adapter, but what it actually draws depends on how much power the computer pulls.

As a gaming laptop, the power draw is pretty high when it is running hard. But if you turn off the graphics card and turn off / scale back power to devices you aren't using you can probably reduce that. If you use hibernate rather than sleep mode, you could probably further reduce the draw.

For safety, you could assume this laptop will time average to about 60 Watts for normal use.

Does this come with a windows 8 disk so we can get rid of bloatware?

There seems to a move away from discs to backup partitions,  the bloat ware isn't too hard to get rid of

Can this be downgraded to Windows 7?

Yes. The most convenient way would be using Windows 7 usb/dvd tool. Using this tool create a boot flash drive and start the laptop from the flash drive. You might have to change boot order from bios. one problem you might encounter is finding drivers for windows 7. goodluck

I like it, its very fast llaptop but i have a problem with NVIDIA GeForce graphic card drivers, can somebody help me about that ?
