When in tablet Mode does the Keyboard get locked out so you don't have keys being pressed by pressure on the top of the stand/touchscreen?

There is no tablet mode on this model, just for clarification. The screen only turns roughly 300 degrees backwards into a stand mode.
The keys don't physically LOCK in place, but the rubber stands on the keyboard face keep the keys from taking any pressure. Any pressure the machine takes from the stand are absorbed through the feet - unless the feet aren't touching the surface you're using it on, the keys shouldn't be taking any pressure.
Also, the keys and their backlight both turn off when you turn the screen past 180 degrees, so you don't have to worry about pressure sending any signals through the keys when it's being used in a different mode.
For a PC that locks its keys in completely and has a tablet mode, I recommend the Lenovo Yoga series.

Would you recommend this for a college student who is using it for coding? is it light to carry around? is it bulky for a book bag?

Actually, I bought this laptop for my grandson. It is an excellent system; especially for the price.

I am a retired programmer, by trade. For coding, a good-sized, hi res screen is necessary so the programmer can keep several screens open while coding and especially when debugging. - This laptop is an excellent machine for this purpose, and portable, too. - I also recommend that you upgrade to Windows 10 and install the latest version of Visual Studio, too.

Does this laptop have the software to play a bluray disc?  I see it has the DVD player, but can't get it to play Bluray.

It doesn't have the hardware to play Bluray discs.  The computer is easily powerful enough to play blurays if you were to add an external bluray drive.

Actually, I purchased this system for my grandson to use in college. As a computer professional, I spent about a month customizing the system for him. It is an impressive machine. Unfortunately, I didn't spend a lot of time using the webcam, if it is as good as the camera in Lenovo Helix, it is a good one. I did use it for Skype several times and it was just fine. -- Hope this helps...

It will run Win 7.0, but I'm not certain whether Lenovo will supply a downgrade. Actually, Windows 8.1 acts very much like Win 7 on this system as 8.1 detects that it is a desktop machine. Also, (as last I heard,) Windows 8.x users will be upgraded to Windows 10 at no charge. - I hope this info is helpful, it is a very good laptop.
