This is a windows 64 bit system right?  Someone posted not 64 bit

Yes.  Far as I know all modern cpus are 64bit capable, just dont put a 32bit os on it (e.g. Win XP).

I wanted to confirm, does it come with Windows 10 x64?

Yes. It does. I'm on mine right now and just looked in Control Panel (I'm old school) to confirm.

Are there any significant heating issues needing an external cooling pad?

I would recommend a cooling pad the gpu on mine has been pushing a lot of heat out. It's better to be safe than sorry to prevent premature wear. As far as needing a cooling pad the answer is no.

I realize that this model does not have a SSD. Can you upgrade the computer and add a SSD to this model?

Yes, a small form factor or M.2 SSD can be added in addition to the traditional HDD, giving the computer two drives. (As always, the HDD could be replaced by a standard size laptop SSD, as well).

Does this one come with the Intel Wireless-AC 8260 (2x2) card? Does it include an external DVD or blu-ray player/writer? Can a SSD be added in addtion to the 1 TB drive? Thanks in advance for your help.

it comes with a external dvd drive not sure if its a burner or not, i havent come across any type of burn software so i can not be sure if its a a burner or just a rom at this point

will i be able to put a ssd inside this like a 128 or 256?or can the 16 gb no handle that?or is the slots taken up?

You can either replace the HDD with an SSD and/or add an m.2 SATA SSD (NVMe-capable, 3rd gen PCIe x4) - The Samsung SM951 or 950 Pro, I decided to go with Pro as it's not much more. BUT you'll need a very small screw, you can probably find one in a laptop that's taken apart, it doesn't come with the drive (I think they're OEM units).

Yes, that SSD will work fine for this unit, as it's SATA III & 2.5-inch. Wow, that's a nice buy...

For the same price, since you're taking it apart anyway, and if in your budget, you could also get a Samsung 950 Pro 256GB m.2 (sans screw); the Y700 is stocked @ 3rd gen PCIe x4 capability. Having both SSDs, one being up to 5x faster read and 2.5x faster write than the fastest standard SSD, you'll be absolutely blown away (put the OS on the m.2 and also enable over-provisioning).

Samsung has data migration software that does all the work for you; if going this route, I'd put in the m.2 drive first, boot, install the NMVe driver, format it as GUID Partition Table (GPT) in Disk Management, then use the migration software, it automatically makes the m.2 the boot drive. Then take out the HDD, insert the 960GB SSD, and use the HDD externally (optionally shrink Windows partition and keep it for an emergency backup drive you can just pop in, while setting aside 800 or 900GB for an external storage partition.

OR fresh install Win 10 - all the drivers needed are on the HDD in their own partition. And you can put the SSD in at the same time for your second drive. No serial needed to re-install Win 10.
