Pros: Beautiful touch interface.
Amazingly responsive keyboard - even though I type 145 WPM
Overall Review: I spent an hour or so playing with this product at a local big-box store. I really enjoyed it. The keyboard is especially amazing to me because I type 145 words per minute (tested), and the keyboard/cover was able to keep up with me.
The previous review from "Matt R" really makes me wonder what people expect. Matt's Surface tablet fell 36 inches from his kitchen counter top to his kitchen floor. It broke. In transit, the crack in the screen got worse, probably from vibration, temperature variation, and barometric pressure variation.
Microsoft refused to fix it for free... because Matt dropped it. Imagine that!
If I crash my car into a brick wall, do you think the car manufacturer should repair it free of charge???
You bought a tablet with a glass screen. You dropped it 36 inches to a hard floor. It broke. Duh.
Pros: Wife got a hold of Joyce at "Microsoft Surface Support" & she took care of the problem. Very impressive. I'm writing this from our notes so hope it makes sense to everybody. As I stated below we couldn't turn the tablet on. Absolutely nothing. Joyce told us (on speaker phone) she has a couple of steps that should fix the problem so we proceeded. 1. SHUT DOWN: Hold power button down for 30 seconds. Wait 10 seconds than push power button to turn on. Nothing. 2. FORCED SHUT DOWN: Hold power & volume buttons down at the same time for 15 seconds, wait 10 seconds than turn on. Worked fine. Joyce was excellent and we had no complaints at all. Very courteous and knew exactly what she was talking about.
Cons: See Below.
Overall Review: See Below.
Pros: Lightweight, portable and plenty powerful for what I use it for. The pen is amazing. The build quality is really excellent and I find new uses for this every day. I love the kickstand's range of motion. The screen is fantastic. I cannot recommend this enough if you need an incredibly portable solution for your computing needs.
Cons: Expensive. You're paying a ton for the portability. There are many more powerful laptops out there at better prices, but not with the same size and portability, it's a trade off really. If you're a gamer, this isn't for you. It can handle very few actual hardcore games. If you need something to handle Office and other non video editing software, this is more than enough.
Overall Review: I use this for writing. The pen and the portability were the selling points that really spoke to me. The 4gb is perfect for the programs I use, mostly OneNote, Office and Firefox, and I've never found the computer to be slow, even when I have multiple programs running. I avoided upgrading to Windows 10. I've heard WAY too many people complaining about the changes to OneNote, which I rely on daily, so I've stayed with 8.1 for now and I have no problem at all with it. YMMV if you switch to 10.
Pros: FAST AND DEPENDABLE. I USE IT TO GIVE LECTURES AND IT NEVER FAILS....CRYSTAL CLEAR SCREEN...LONG BATTERY LIFE..AN ABSOLUTE STEAL AT $489!!!
Cons: NO CONS
Overall Review: GET ONE ASAP
Pros: Received my items quickly and exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Pros: Better than dell's tablets.
Cons: (1) Battery life is short, not 8 hours per charge as claimed.
(2) Unable to add Google search provider to IE 11. The default "Bing" usually leads to sites of potential attacks and virus.
Overall Review: After I ordered two tablets, I received to many "Promotional" emails and other annoying emails from newegg.com. I "Unsubscribed" many times. Still receiving these kind of junk mails from newegg.com. Emails come at 5:00AM and waked me up from sleep. Very bad experience.
Pros: When it was working I did enjoy the user interface and believe much of this will be improved under Windows 10
Cons: This product is not durable, becomes defective at the slightest blemish and Microsoft's warranty cannot help you. I had my Surface for just under a year so it was still under warranty. One morning the Surface was in the protective case I bought from Microsoft in my backpack and my backpack fell off my kitchen counter. Later that day I notice a small hairline fracture in the upper righthand corner of the screen. However when I went to use the device nothing would function as normal. I figured that the touch screen capabilities might not work in that portion of the screen but now none of the normal user interface functions would work and it was essentially inoperable without using a mouse. Naturally I sent it in for an in warranty repair. Once they received it I confirmed with the Microsoft support tech that they received my defective Surface, that it would be covered under the warranty and I would receive a new replacement within a few days.
I was shocked a few days later to open the box of what I was told would be my replacement Surface to find my original device and a notice that this was not covered under warranty. The surface now had a huge crack running across the screen in far worse shape then when I sent it (after taking extra pre-caution when I shipped it).
I like to think that I am a reasonable person and I understand that screens can break easily and sometime you have to pay which I can deal with. However after this experience 3 things are clear to me:
1) The Surface Pro 3 can easily be broken even when you use the recommended precautions from Microsoft (i.e. the overpriced protective case they sell you with it)
2) Even the smallest of nicks can cause the entire user interface to malfunction and render the device inoperable (unlike other computers where if you damage one part of the monitor you might not be able to read the screen there but at least the device will still function)
3) Microsoft support is unprofessional providing false information regarding the status of my repair and the warranty on the Surface covers almost nothing
I just hope others aren't subjected to this same terrible ordeal I had to go through. My recommendation is to either purchase their best warranty with this product or stick to your old laptop because this product will break and unlike most laptops you have few options when it does.
