is this appropriate to attach a heatsink to a motherboard ?

No. Just use Arctic Silver 5 or any other good heat sink thermal paste. The Thermal adhesive kit is to use when you want to adhere a heat sink to a thermal source that may move when you reassemble the unit, such as adding copper shims to chips so you can  transfer the heat from the chip to some other conductive surface, such as the metal part of a laptop's palm rest. It is a great heat sink compound, but don't use it on any heat sink that you may want to remove. It will set like cement.

How long is this typically good for?

I used this product for some permanent installations and it is performing well. Since it's like epoxy, it's a one-time use. The mix started to set up in about 3 minutes at room temp, which was plenty of time. I put the remaining open capped tubes in the fridge and I expect they will last at least a year, but I haven't checked them lately.

Question 3

how much will this cover? 6 sq inches or more? i want to do 64 .7mmx.7mm heat sinks (34mm)

I never ended up using this product,but judging by the size of the tubes and you do combine them I believe it should cover what you need. As far as I understand you only need a very small amount  on each heat sink to hold it in place.Hope this helps you.
