The HP LTO Ultrium-7 Data Cartridge is a WORM tape cartridge with up to 6.25 TB native capacity (15 TB compressed), suited to IT teams archiving or backing up data with compatible LTO-7 tape drives.
Recommended For
- IT teams rotating backup cartridges for large data sets that need a removable, offline copy for off-site storage or ransomware recovery.
- Video and media-production teams archiving completed footage or project files that can stay offline and do not need frequent retrieval.
- Organizations already using LTO backup systems that need additional LTO-7 media for scheduled backup and archive jobs; LTO-8 drives can also read and write LTO-7 cartridges.
- Data-storage teams preserving sizeable collections for long-term retention, where tape’s removable format and offline storage matter more than immediate access to individual files.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- After a video shoot or post-production project is complete, a studio writes the camera originals and project files to tape for long-term storage; the files can be retrieved later when a client requests an older project, but tape is better suited to archiving than frequent browsing.
- An IT team adds tape to its regular server or NAS backup routine, keeping a removable copy offline or off-site; this provides another recovery copy, while restoring data requires the compatible tape drive and backup software.
- A production company with a large archive keeps completed projects on tape instead of leaving every project on online storage; this can reduce the need to keep rarely accessed material immediately available, though retrieving a project takes a tape-based workflow.
- A business or media team archives older camera footage that is unlikely to be needed day to day; the tape is brought back into a compatible drive when footage must be reviewed or restored, rather than used like a directly attached hard drive.
- A backup administrator periodically reads or tests archived tapes and keeps more than one copy of important data; this helps identify media or restore problems before the archive is needed, but tape should not be treated as the only backup.
