Great value if you know what you need4/12/2012 8:33:54 AM
Pros: Runs Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) well, smoother than some major brand tablets. Relatively lightweight and useful for reading in bed or carrying on trains, etc. Multi-touch screen is responsive. Gaming performance good for all but most demanding 3d games. Decent community support, plus warranty backed by a U.S. company that really does reply to e-mails. Comes with case!
Cons: At only 800 by 480, the screen resolution is a lot lower than the tablets provided by major brands, and it is noticeable up close. (There's a silver lining - apps designed for Android phones, for example Kairosoft games, actually look good here). The viewing angles could be better, and the colors aren't as vivid as competitors, but it's not insufferable for me. The build quality is a bit on the cheap side, with the buttons a bit sticky and the plastic a bit ugly, but with ICS you'll be using on screen buttons anyway. Out of the box, has crashes and stalls, but upgrading firmware largely fixes this. When downloading and installing apps, can get caught in some major interface lag, but this passes once they're installed.
Overall Review: Ask yourself what you need in a tablet. For reading, organizing thoughts / schedules, and most games, this will do you just fine. And I really do mean most, except for Gameloft products (which are notoriously finicky on any hardware) and Tegra only apps. There's one more thing: you have to be willing to do some legwork and upgrade the tablet firmware yourself. There are easy to follow guides out there, so it should be a problem unless you give the tablet as a gift to someone who has no tech knowledge.
Pros: - Price, price!
- Excellent specs for price
- Quality built
- Upgradable to ICS 4.03
- Rooted
- Fast WIFI
- Nice leather case
- Connectivity (USB, HDMI)
- Good battery life (after a couple of tweaks)
Read the tread of "eyeoncomputers" published on TabletRepublic for firmware upgrade and script to unlocks Play Store (Market) apps, updates GApps, removes phone services, etc...
In addition to removing the phone apk I found that enabling WIFI timeout using "advance WIFI lock" app (comes with eyeoncomputers' Ver. 4.0 script) dramatically improves battery life, you just need to turn you WIFI on when you awake your tablet (I never had to reboot to do that)
Cons: - None at this price point.
Please note that there is no GPS or bluetooth
Overall Review: I have been wanting an android tablet for quite sometime but I wasn't welling to pay several $100s for it . This tablet does everything I need it to do. At this price, its simply outstanding.
Pros: Android 4.0 available
Plays 3d Games
Plays HD movies
Cons: Poorly written manual
Cell phone services enabled in OS out of the box causing terrible battery life
No explanation of how 4GB flash and 512 MB of ram are utilized.
Overall Review: This tablet actually does have 4GB Flash/512MB Ram it is just split 2GB is used for OS and App space and 2GB is used as the internal SD card. RAM shows as 322 this is because part of the RAM is reserved for OS/Video use. When I installed ICS the Flash memory was split up different with only 1GB going to the OS and App space and a 3GB internal SD space showing. This tablet plays a lot of games and because of the way the Flash is partitioned you can install a ton of Apps and Games before the device reports low internal memory. By editing the build.prop and deleting a couple files in root explorer you can truly disable the cell standby that drains the battery so quickly. Overall this is not a bad tablet for the price, and because there are a lot of different brands based around the same hardware there is a pretty good support stream for this tablet via Forums. Other tablets such as Ployer MOMO9c, Allwinner A10, Ainol Novo7 are all based on the exact same hardware that is in this device.
Overall Review: I bought this for my 4 year old daughter to help her with pre-k and elementry school learning. Instead of buying her a "toy" tablet for $50, I decided to spend a litle more money and get a "real" tablet with lots of apps available. For $125, I wasn't expecting much for the price. Now that I have used it, I am seriously considering getting one for myself.
Pros: Price - caught it on sale for $120
Fast - had no trouble running anything
Rooted
Cons: Batterly life seems a little lacking even after make changes suggested ny eyeoncomputers
Overall Review: This tablt has done everything we need. We travel a lot, so we bought this for Web, E-mail and Skype video calls. All of this works flawlessly. Finding more and more apps that are useful - but my wife is now addicted to Angry Birds.
Pros: Fast, decent screen, portable, and comes with a nifty carrying case. it comes with the real android market place. wifi is strong.
Cons: horrible battery life and even after phone fix you might squeeze 2 to 3 hours out of it. however for me this is just a minor problem.
Overall Review: for under 150 dollars this tablet can play with some of the big boys in the 300 dollar range. comparing the other tablets around the 150 dollar range are garbage. for people that might be wondering i have tested angry birds space and draw something and both work with no lag what so ever. This is a must buy item for any occasion, be it that your buying it for yourself, your wife/husband, or a friend, this tablet will not disappoint.
Excellent Tablet with Strong Community5/22/2012 3:08:47 PM
Pros: I bought this from another vendor. Excellent machine. It has run every program I wanted extremely well. The screen is very responsive and the all-winner CPU is just a beast. Wish the resolution was a bit higher, but it's good for what it is. I read a ton of reviews before pulling the trigger on buying this. I really shopped around and thought about picking up several other 7" competitors (Kindle Fire, Nook Tablet, Tab 2, acer a100....) but the price range for those devices $200+ really kept me from buying them. I hit up BB to test out electronics toys in person every so often and I almost bought an Acer a100 the one day.
After much consideration, toying around and reading I figured $125 for was worth a shot.
- excellent htpc (hdmi to my 42" tv)
- rooted
- all android programs you want
- no real hitches, runs fast
the eyeoncomputers youtube guy there did a really good job working out this tablet
Cons: I did have a hiccup this week. I was charging the tablet and the touch screen stopped working. I couldn't unlock it. I tried resetting it several times....nothing worked.
Finally I let the battery run all the way down, and then plugged it in and restarted it....touch scree started working again.
Memory got hung up? I'm not sure what happened there. Works fine now though.
Overall Review: If you're on the fence but don't want to spend $200-400 for a 7" tablet because you don't think it's worth it....I'd say it's not. Which is what makes this one at $125 a steal.
For what I use it for, web browsing, watching movies, reading pdf's, email, facebook......a 7" tablet (no matter how good it is) isn't worth spending $250+ IMO. It's just not.
But this little tablet (which is actually quite thin) is comes in at a price point which makes it worth the risk. Does everything the giants maybe without the super resolution displays but just a decent one that works....maybe not with 1gb of ram but sufficient to not get caught up. It's customizable (microSD card, hdmi out, front camera) enough that it works for anything you'd need, but doesn't hit your wallet.
Pros: Runs Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) well, smoother than some major brand tablets.
