I use mine to answer email (of course, you do need to be connected to the internet).  I find it easier to tilt the screen (landscape mode/on its side) as the keys appear larger.

NO THIS MODEL IS PERFECT FOR HER AS LONG AS WHERE SHE LIVES HAS WIFI. ALSO REMEMBER THAT THE PARENT CAN TAKE THE TABLET AT ANYTIME IF THEY WANT TO BE DIFFICULT. THE TABLET ITSELF IS PERFECT FOR HER NEEDS THOUGH.
