NOT Verizon compatible 2/3/2020 4:06:26 PM

Pros: Great phone. Excellent camera and lightning fast apps without the lag of my last phone. Shipped and delivered in a timely manner.

Cons: It was frustrating to find a case to fit the "special edition" size (i ordered a few to find nothing fit).
Cut my existing simcard down to microsize to fit, which wasnt too difficult with online help.
But after all the previous challenges, Verizon store explained that this phone is NOT compatible with their service, even though the phone is "unlocked"

Overall Review: Great phone for ATT or similar carrier.
Being a special size, finding compatible cases is extremely difficult.

earphone jack partially borke 6/18/2019 10:29:28 AM

Pros: - speedy
- decent storage space

Cons: - something in the earphone jack popped and now the sound only comes through one ear phone. I've changed earphones and its definitely something wrong with the internal earphone jack

A warning to potential rooters 5/21/2019 8:52:37 PM

Pros: - Bootloader is unlockable (So it is able to be rooted)
- FM Radio
- Came with bluetooth headset.
- Full HD Screen.
- Low on bloatware, and you can disable pretty much all of it without root, even annoying Google apps like Google Assistant/Youtube

Cons: - Motorola was bought by Lenovo, so don't expect a level of quality above Huawei/ZTE/Other Chinese brands.
- Obnoxious start-up animation that you can mute through settings, but not remove without aggressive use of a bootloader.
- Hard to root.
- FM Radio only works with wired headphones (which act as the antenna), phone comes with bluetooth headphones. Even if you use wired headphones, you basically find yourself pointing your phone in the direction of the station you want to listen to, arm outstretched, and if you move in the slightest, you lose the station. Perhaps it works better if you're much closer to the station, but chances are, if you don't have wi-fi/data to listen to internet radio, you're not close to a radio station either.
- No stock weather widget.
- 1 year warranty.
- Battery isn't user serviceable, and batteries generally have a shorter lifespan than phones do.

Overall Review: - A note on root. This phone, on the surface is easy to root if you know what you're doing, or can follow instructions. Unlock bootloader, install custom recovery, install root, done. The problem is, this model suffers from the dreaded f2fs bug which prevents even a rooted device from giving superuser permissions to apps. This means, until you find a custom kernal or patch that fixes that bug, you've voided your warranty and violated your carrier's ToS for nothing.

*edit after 16 months of ownership
Within 8 months, the headphone jack went out.
Last week the screen started burning in. If you looked at something for 10 minutes, for the next 6 hours you'd see that image superimposed like a watermark.
Luckily, I bought the extended warranty (which is a phrase I never thought I'd use, but without a removable battery I thought it was worth risking $22 for a probable batter replacement. Also, the motorola headset that came with it broke physically within two months.

Had the phone for a year plus. 4/8/2019 10:00:15 AM

Pros: It's been a year plus since I bought this phone. Haven't had any major problems with it. Call quality has been great, I love the fact that it's unlocked for the 4 major carriers in the U.S.
Most problems have been solved with updates.

Cons: I ended up downloading another app for the keyboard, hated the google keyboard.
The camera takes some getting used to, but it's not terrible.
The GPS occasionally has problems. It is especially bad on rainy/cloudy days and at night. Make sure to have the directions saved.

Overall Review: I use Zedge for ringtones and wallpapers. The ones provided are not to my taste or get annoying/boring.

Great phone (except for camera) 12/6/2018 9:51:33 AM

Pros: 3GB Ram, Price, No Bloatware, Quality, tough phone

Cons: Camera

Overall Review: I have owned this phone and used it for business for almost 2 years now. It has been a fantastic phone for the price! It doesn't have bloatware, it handles pretty much everything necessary for a business smart phone, and it has a large beautiful display! MOTO did a few updates to the phone that were rather disappointing, more of a regression, but we were able to continue using it with some adjustments. Biggest downside is the camera - no much good in low light or mixed light. I just bought a Samsung S7 and I actually like the Moto G5s Plus better in terms of speed, screen size, processing, and battery life. I thought I'd be upgrading, but it's more of a lateral move.

Check What You Received! 12/5/2018 2:07:48 PM

Pros: Slower than what I expected, because Newegg sent me a cheaper version of the G5s.

Cons: I bought the 3 GB version of the XT1806 listed on this page a year ago, and I received mine in a XT1681 box - I thought Newegg had repackaged it in the wrong box when I got it. Just now found in the phone settings that they had actually sent me the XT1681 (a 2 GB RAM version) instead of what I ordered. That explains it being slower than I expected.

Disappointed 8/7/2018 4:16:16 PM

Pros: It receives & sends SMS messages and has Google assistant.

Cons: Snapchat will not work. Ever. Various apps fail to work properly no matter how many updates. The cameras are supposed to be great, but the phone lags & I end up with photographs looking like they're from a digital camera from 1995. I have trouble making phone calls about 15% of the time with T-Mobile as my carrier. The clock app's alarms are unreliable & will randomly decide not to work.

Overall Review: I made the mistake of buying two of these phones (one for myself & one for my wife) and both phones have the same problems. I really regret buying these.

Phone is good - but not great on Sprint 3/19/2018 5:43:49 AM

Pros: - Cost for what you get is excellent
- Screen/glass is excellent
- Camera as good as competition

Cons: - I do not believe this phone is fully compatible with Sprint
- You can't return this product
- Does not support HDTVs with MiraCast, only supports Chromecast ($35 device) and that must be on the same wireless network which I could not get to work over a Sprint hotspot.
- Older style USB connector - makes it so you can't convert to HDMI out with an adapter and cable to HDTV

Overall Review: I did verify that it works on AT&T and Sprint, which are GSM and CDMA networks so it definitely has both radios. The GSM bands that ATT uses in my home in the country was not available to so I had to switch back to Sprint where the CDMA bands are strong. For those of you who must use Sprint like I do, do some internet searching on issues with this phone and Sprint. Sprint is forcing IPV6 on your device over DNS64 - I do not want to get into the weeds with this to explain what that means. But I will tell you that some apps depending on IPV4 only and having no support for IPV6 *may* not work, some may. Example, so far I have not been able to tether this phone to my laptop and use the phone's LTE signal over 4G. I also subscribed to an external VPN service which no longer works. Both will work if I back the phone down to 3G - which doesn't work for me. Both worked fine on my Galaxy S5 on 4G before I "upgraded" to the Moto.

Overall, I suspect if you live in a metropolitan area where you have any carrier choice available to you, this phone would be awesome and for it's features, the cost is best on the market. If you're stuck with one or two carriers, I'd suggest moving on unless all you care about are phone/text/simple data. If you want to use sophisticated network apps, I'd suggest paying more for the bigger brands. My wife's Samsung S8+ has none of these issues on the same account/network.

I don't actually hate this phone. My rating is low because I think there are carrier compatibility problems even though it says fully compatible with all major carriers. If I lived in town and could switch carriers, I think I'd be liking it a lot more. I think Newegg should relax their return policy for cases like this, next time I will go to a box store.
