Hi Rob!  I am not absolutely familiar with the ipod line but I would think that if normally able to be charged via USB, that this would work just fine.  I think it would just not be able to utilize the advanced features (PowerIQ) and faster charging ability that it offers.  
I have yet to find anything that it will not charge and think you'll be quite happy with it.
The only thing I would like it to have is some sort of indicator light showing it was plugged in and working.  Of course, some might actually prefer this!  ;-)
