The PS4 controller uses a micro USB so its different from the PS3. Most newer cell phones, tablets, etc. use micro USB which is what I'm using currently to use it on my PS3 (by the way the controller rocks!). Hope this helps.

Yes, All ps4 controllers are wireless, only need a cord to charge ( not included ) .

The spare controller alone does not come with a standard micro USB charge cable. However, if you have purchased a PlayStation 4 (or most cell phones), then you should have one already.

Is PS4 Controller Backwards compatible with the PS3?

Not technically, not by Bluetooth. I've been able to make it work by directly connecting it to the PS3 using the usb cable. It only worked while connected.

Does it work well with PC's?

Yes & no. Using a program like DS4 To XInput Wrapper causes Win7 to treat the DualShock 4 as if it were a 360 controller.

Potential downsides:
1) It doesn't yet seem to work wirelessly. However, it can be plugged in with a standard USB micro cable.
2) Vibration and the touchpad are currently nonfunctional.
3) A couple of games still don't recognize it (e.g., in Sonic Allstars Racing Transformed, only one button works).

On the other hand:
1) People are already working on fixing the above issues.
2) Using the afore-mentioned program, I've been able to play games like Enslaved, Castle of Illusion, Giana Sisters, and La-Mulana without any glitches.
3) It's an excellent controller.

does this come with a charging cable?  How long do they take to recharge?

Make sure to buy a cable that supports charging. Sometimes buying the cheapest Mini USB cables doesn't work as they won't actually charge the controller.

Is this a factory Sony controller just like the one that comes with PS4 or is it an aftermarket?

This controller is the exact same as the original that comes with the game console
