we really like this camera, but the problem is we need about 8 of them, my father wanted to ask if we could run all 8 to one box or vcr,and if possible to view  or control with an app?, the app option may be impossible but it doesn't hurt to ask

The software that comes with the camera works on a computer with Windows and the included application can view multiple cameras (off hand I think the max number of cameras is 32, might even be 64). 
Be aware these are IP cameras that work on networks cables. They are NOT connected via COAX. They will not work with a VCR.  When you run multiple cameras over networking cables the network bandwidth may be the limiting factor on the number of cameras you can connect to your computer. I have a typical 100Mbps network and can easily view 6 to 8 cameras. The cameras can be set to a lower frames per second, like 4 instead of 16. That will reduce traffic on the network and allow you to connect more cameras.  The resolution can also be set lower which also reduces network traffic, but it is counterproductive to use a NICE high resolution camera and reduce it to a lower resolution. If you mean app as in a phone app, yes you can view these cameras from a phone app.

I assume you got POE,  I purchased a POE switch ..we have alittle different setup

We had Fiber ran to our camera site so we go from switch to Ethernet to the house to another  to switch and router and static ip
The switch is routerBOARD260GS/p

I'm looking for a camera like this but it needs to have a microphone on it. I did not see any thing in the specs about audio. I wanted to know if this had one? If not can someone recommend one that has a mic?

the ptz version has 2 way audio its fairly well built, i didnt really like these in particular of trnednet cameras in general they are just rebranded chinese with software that i felt was clunky and required lots of add ons. look into hikivision their ui is clean straight forward and doesnt require a local codec to watch. DS-2CD2532F-I(W)(S) keep in mind while video is generally ok their are a lot of legal concerns when it comes to recording audion most states have one party consent laws that say that as long as one of the parties recording is involved its ok but you cant record conversations you arent apart of.

How much bandwidth do I need for the IP 310PI?

That's kind of a loaded question, depending on how many cameras you're running, if you are using a local video server or offsite and how many concurrent connections you have. The camera has multiple stream support to change encoding methods dependent on the connected device.  If you constantly stream 30fps 720p video over the internet, 1mb/s upstream bandwidth per camera would be recommended, but 768kb/s would suffice with a touch of quality loss.

will i be able to veiw on my laptop and where do i get the cable and power supply?

This is a very nice camera. It comes with TRENDnet View Pro software that you'll be able to control/view/etc. the camera system on.  You can also set up the camera to text you photographs on motion/event.

You'll need Cat5 wire and the connectors along with either a separate POE (Power over Ethernet) switch or you'll need to get the power supply that TRENDnet sells to put power to the camera.  You can find that information on their website

what options does this camera have for recording? is it recording at all times or can you set it up to record when motion is detected? Where is the recording stored?

Accepted Answer

The camera can save directly to a network share or FTP location. It comes with some really nice software that will record everything on a local PC (watered down version of Luxriot). THere are settings for motion-initiated recording, motion zones, sensitivity, quality, etc.. Recording is store locally, if you are using the included software, in a password protected archive. The software will manage cleanup of old video and keep your archive current.

Can I purchase the power supply at new egg for this device?

It uses POE so a POE switch or router is recommended. Search for "poe power injector" in newegg and you will find a suitable power supply if you do not want a new switch / router.

Question 10

There are 2 camera hardware versions “v1.0R” or “v1.1R”. The website showing “v1.0R” and that is what we need, confirming which one it is?

Hi, I apologize for my delay in responding to your question. I'm not quite understanding the question but, I have both versions, v1.0R has a few less parameters than v1.1R. I would suggest the v1.1R.
I did upgrade the firmware on my v1.0R and that is little tricky. Not on the cam but on the Browser.
