Do I need to buy something else to make this critter connect to my WiFi? Something that plugs in to the LAN port maybe? I have plans to put this in the living room WAY BEYOND Ethernet cable reach, or can I just connect it up and connect to the network and go online? Thank you.

I just plug it into the wall and the TV and it did the rest. It was simple to set up. I found my WI-Fi and put in the security code and we have had it running perfectly since. I think You'll like it.

Just plug and go! There's a wireless setup process accessible through the main menu (though it should trigger automatically). Just have your password handy.

And for the record, the speed on wireless is great assuming you've got a decent wifi signal; I stream from my media server at full 1080p quality with no trouble. Just move the device around to test out your signal; remember that something as simple as another nearby electronic device (or even old lead paint on a door) can obstruct the signal, but since this thing is so small, you can make the most of your signal by moving it around or even putting it on top of the entertainment center (instead of stuffed into a shelf).

Is this player region free? A region free LG BP330 is presently advertised elswhere, just wondering if it's the same.

Are there controls on the DVD itself?  Can you control the dvd player with out the remote?

yes there are touch controls on the player and yes you can control it without the remote. it syncs with other samsung remotes nicely as well as samsung smart phones :)
