Are the speaker wires pre-installed in the speakers or can I use my own wire?

you can use your own wire... my house was already wired for surround sound so I just use the wires that were already in the walls. The slots to connect the wires are smaller than most speakers though so it can be a bit of a struggle at times

Could you mount the speakers to the ceiling/wall?

the 4 satellite speakers have brackets to hang on a wall
the center speaker has no way of hanging it

the "arc" audio return channel I had the problem with it cutting in & out, very annoying.
I'm using the digital optical audio cable from my TV to the receiver
it does not come with an optical cable.

Does this unit come with the remote control that is spoken of in the manula?

The remote control that came in the package is model # "AXD7690". I don't recall seeing the model number in the manual but it is exactly like the one on page 8 (English) of the manual.

Question 4

I am electronic dumb, so my question is does "satellite speakers" mean Remote?

Accepted Answer

No. The satellite speakers are wired and the term is used to imply that the two of the speakers are located in the back of the user and above the user.

So to summarize, there are 3 speakers in the front which are, front left, front center and front right. The 2 satellite speakers are located in the back - one for left and one for right. So that makes up the 5 speakers in the 5.1 channel designation. The .1 is the sub-woofer.

Again, the satellite speakers are not remote and are located in the same room as the other speakers. Hope this helps.

Does this unit support standby passthrough so I can watch the connected HDMI devices without turning on the receiver?

I found out that it does by accident. I had turned the receiver off first and got distracted before turning off the cable box and TV. When I returned to do so the show on cable was playing with no sound. I simply turned up the TV volume and it was like old times. Hope this helped.

Question 6

Can the audio and video sources be used independently?
Say I have a PS3 and a PC both feeding audio and video to the receiver, can I choose to display the ps3 on my screen while listening to the audio from my PC at once?

I don't think it's possible as the remote control (or the left control knob on the receiver) only allows you to enter one input signal. I don't know of any receiver capable of utilizing more than one input at a time. Of course you could do it the old fashion way, play your audio from your computer speakers and mute the receiver while using the PS3.

Does this unit have composite output (Red-GFeen-Blue?

It doesn't have composite out; only component (the yellow one). Also, what I didn't realize until it got here is that the receiver doesn't convert video. HDMI in goes directly to HDMI out, and component in goes directly to component out. So I had to get an HDMI-to-component converter too (~$30). But all is well now, and the speakers/receiver work like champs.

the 4 small speakers have brackets, they mount flat on the wall there is no adjustment if you want to angle the speaker. 
mounting screws & wall anchors are not provided

the center speaker has no mount or mounting holes, it will need a shelf or a stand

there is only enough speaker wire for about a 12' X 15' room the wire just reaches the rear speakers  - if the room is larger you will need more wire. I had to get more wire for the subwoofer placement.
what they give you was not long enough for what i needed.

Are the HDMI ports 2.0's?

I do not have a 4K tv, the above is directly from the manufacturer. the quoted 4K Ultra-High Definition Pass-Through would suggest 2.0 compatibility.

Hope that information helps. I am very please with my system. There is more than enough sound to fill a mid size living area even at half volume. I have my Xbox 360, my BluRay, my Cable DVR Box, my Apple TV running through the HDMI leaving available Composite for daughters Wii. Cable management is much easier with only the one hdmi cable going up to the TV. For the money, this system is an excellent buy at $229.
