Apple TV does not have any internal storage (at least that is use for long term storage such as movies or music).

Apple TV was designed to stream the video from your ipad, iphone or another compatible device, to your TV.  It does have built in apps to stream with out a host device (netflix, itunes, etc).

You will need an hdmi cable of appropriate length to your TV.  It does come with a remote and you can also download an Apple "Remote" app for any Apple iOS device on the same network.
