Does this come with a Y-splitter cable for the subwoofer (or any subwoofer cable for that matter)?

I bought a Y cable (Not adaptor) for my setup because I heard the auto function was finicky from some reviews, and others have mentioned by using a Y cable, it solved issues with the sub being able to return from standby.
Since I got it, I've used this Y cable and I didn't have to leave my sub on all the time. I've used the auto switch on the back of the sub and have not had any issues.

So as others have mentioned, it's not included. You may also have seen using splitters or adaptors can introduce static, noise, or other undesired results. Choice is yours, and should a problem arrive from your choice, a solution may be available.

do i need the receiver for this please?

The satilite speakers (5 small ones) will require some source of power, like a receiver or amplifier. The subwoofer is self powered. 
I use Onkyo 616 receiver. Beautiful sound from these speakers!

Does this need to be wired or is it wireless?

It is not wireless. You need a receiver with 5 amplifier channels to wire to the speakers and 1 sub output to wire to the subwoofer. (The subwoofer has an amp in it.)

$150 is a great price on these. I wish I had paid that for mine.

Does this hook up to a computer without any headaches?

This set is simply speakers. In order to connect this to a computer, you would still need some kind of receiver or at least an amplifier, speaker cable and the appropriate connection from the receiver to the computer. A receiver would have all the hookups you would need. You might be better off going with a Logitech, Klipsch, or some other computer or home theater in a box setup for an all in one package if you are looking for the easiest set up possible.

Does it come with any cables ? If not what are all the things that are needed apart from speaker wire and stands.

Do we need a sub woofer cable for this for connecting to amp or does it come with one ?

The system does not include a sub-woofer cable so you'll need to purchase one; a single is all that's needed. Additionally you may want to purchase some banana plugs for ease of dis-assembly if you decide at a later date to set up the system in another room or move house.

However, if you are mounting any of the speakers on your walls instead of using speaker stands (and there are mounting holes for this purpose in the rear of each of the five speakers) then you'll have to use the existing recessed screw terminals instead because plugs will stand proud of the speaker box.

Why so cheap?

I've had these speakers for a couple months now and they have taken everything that I've throw at them. They sound really good and haven't broken yet. compared to the new Polk in ceiling speakers I have they sound bad, but if you're looking for a cheap alternative these are great.  I think they might be so cheap just because I myself or anyone else I've talked to while I was shopping for my new system, has not heard of this company.  In short, they're not Boss or Polk, but they can take a beating and sound pretty nice for the little money you spend compared to other companies.

Can the four satellite speakers be ceiling-mounted? Description says wall mounted or bookshelf. Can anyone please confirm?

Not very well would be my answer.  There is a slot on the back of the speakers where you would place the head of a screw or nail and slide (typically down) to hold into place. I have done this for my two rear satellites onto wall (not ceiling though).

I suppose if you have a strong nail or screw held firmly into ceiling you could do similar operation. Heads up, no wiring. For this price though MOST definitely. Great sound. I am so happy and my friends thoroughly impressed.

can i join with 3.5 jack head?

I wouldn't recommend it. You need to provide wiring to each speaker. The subwoofer has a mono RCA input. The other speakers have positive and negative binding posts to which the wires are to connect. So you would have to use custom cabling, and I'm not sure how you would cleanly get a single stereo signal to five speakers and a subwoofer.

Is it possible to use speaker stands with the satellite speakers?

If you mount the speaker stands to the back of the speakers, it will take some adapting. These speakers are made for wall attachment. The speakers however, could also go on top of speaker stands. Whatever you decide this is a great system.
