what's the percentage of every transaction does square take for their reader? and how does this compare to pay pal's own?

its about a little more than 2%, paypal is the same. both are good so far. Although there is a cap for square.not sure if paypal has it though.

what are the hardware and software of square reader?

Software for square is their app available on android and itunes. The hardware just requires a aux connection.
