Question 1

will this unit play 4 speakers at one time?
Can you play an iPod on it?

This unit has two pairs of speaker outputs, which support 4 speakers.  Each pair has its own front panel switch that controls two speakers.  And Yes, with both speaker switches ON, 4 speakers will play at the same time.

All of the Input connectors on the Teac are of the RCA Phono plug type.  You can adapt an iPod output cable to RCA plugs with an inexpensive converter.

Question 2

I have a TV with terrible sound and think I should hook up a receiver (I already have a couple of decent Sony speakers).  Would this be a good choice?  Also, can you buy an extra remote?

jerry, this is exactly what I have done, and it works great. All audio should sound better if you run it through this device, that is exactly what it is designed to do, and this unit it does it very well at a great price.  I don't know about a second remote, might take some web digging.  I also run a small internet connected PC through it for streaming music on my home network and Netflix, MLB, etc.  Love the physical controls, remote is great.  If you have the speakers, this will do it for you.

Question 3

Can I use a bluetooth audio transmitter for my wireless speakers?

Not sure how to hook up a bluetooth audio transmitter. 
The answer would be yes if the bluetooth is a separately powered device with L and R audio inputs, but "no" if the bluetooth is a USB device.

Question 4

This is to Newegg - Why are these items not rated correctly? The way that quality items are rated is by a wattage rating at a certain amount of distortion over the ENTIRE audio spectrum, which differs, but is usually considered to be 20Hz-20kHZ.

By rating this item at 1kHz, it makes anyone with some knowledge wonder if the unit can deliver its rated power [which is also sketchy, as it is misidentified across the description] at the upper end and, more importantly in the lowest frequencies.

Marc K: It's true TEAC does not provide the information you are looking for, but if you are looking for a low cost receiver that performs pretty well this is it. I bought the AG-790 to replace a 20 year old TEAC that is still working that I have moved to my garage. The new model is hooked up to a pair of Bose cubes in my bedroom  and a pair of floor speakers in the loft. They sound great together. My primary system is driven by a high end Yamaha receiver. Sure the Yamaha is better, but it cost 5 times as much.
If you are looking for a basic system that can drive two pairs of speakers, and can tie into your TV, DVD, and phono with decent sound quality, this is a good buy at $120. 
I like to hook my I-phone to the aux port and play my music.
