Will this TV work with an Apple TV attachment?

You can use one of the 3 HDMI ports on this TV with an apple TV box.  The biggest con on this set is the lack of any smart TV type features...  The apple TV could help satisfy that.  This TV is slow to change between inputs and you have to cycle thru all of them to get to what you want.  No nice menu system like on other more expensive sets.  Almost zero fine tuning controls.  The screen will not in anyway wow you.  I would not recommend or purchase this set again even at the low price.

Question 2

I am setting this TV up and the color is a little funny, do you have any recommended color and resolution settings other than the default settings to fix this?

The tint was the most important.  Certain shows could even use the tint set to 57  There may be better but this is what I am using and it looks pretty good.

Question 3

Does refurbish mean it was a return unit with problems that was fixed?  Also, if it was used, was it still under warranty for the year?

The unit I received was either a returned & repaired unit, or one with suspected water damage. One of the 4 screw holes for mounting the base was stripped out. Not really necessary, but I ended up inserting a drywall-type plastic anchor into that one screw hole. The shipping carton looked like it had sat in a flooded basement for a year or so (wet with grey mold everywhere, & much of what little remained of the cardboard dissolved on touch - the UPS guy said he'd never seen anything like it, & wouldn't touch it. I had to take pictures before accepting).

Otherwise, it came physically & functionally indistinguishable from brand new. No dead pixels, and not a single scratch or blemish. It works great for my purposes as a HTPC monitor, where the HTPC serves as a backup regular PC, & is way better than I expected for the price. TV just as good as ( & maybe better than) the costlier dead Samsung it replaced.

It did include a notice about a limited warranty period for refurbished - 90 days if memory serves. But legally, the return period should be forever, since it's falsely advertised as a 120 Hz monitor - when, in fact, it's a standard 60 Hz monitor (avid gamers, take note - with very high-end video cards, you'd need vsync with a 60fps cap. If you need a true 120 HZ monitor, there just isn't one at this size and price).

The proprietary power cord is two-wire only (no ground). So parents of young children might have safety concerns.

I'm very happy with it, and doubt that it will require warranty service within the normal 1-year period. But if that were to be the case, my biggest problem would be that whatever little remained of the shipping carton was too wet and moldy to be retained. I had to throw the cardboard out, leaving nothing I could return it in.

How does this set compare to VIZIO, LG, or TOSHIBA?

i'm not sure how it compares really.... we just upgraded from an old plasma tv and so far we've been pretty impressed. Our picture is sharper than the two other tvs in our living room currently (couple friends gaming) their tvs are coby and panasonic
