Is this refurbished? or brand new?

I just got mine about 2 weeks ago and it was brand new.  Newegg should clearly indicate whether it is new or refurbished in the description.

does this model have RCA audio output jacks to hook-up to an older surround receiver?

It does not have RCA audio output jacks but it does have a 3.5mm audio output (think headphone jack) and they make 3.5mm to RCA cables that should allow you to hook it up to your older receiver.

What else will I need to set up this television?

I bought this tv for my mother. I was able to watch it for 2 week to see how it performed. So far, I was pleased with it. Nice picture when viewing HD tv shows or movies. The nice thing was that it is wireless internet ready. Unlike my father's and my sister's tv, there was no need to buy an attachment for wireless internet hookup. The remote is easy to operate. It even controls her Blueray player. I feel it was a good purchase and my mother enjoys the new tv.

It has a 3.5mm audio output jack on the back of the tv with the rest of the connections that you can plug headphones into.
