Can't tell, since the two MOOVs that we bought did not come with any instructions at all.  Your guess is as good as mine.  Poor purchase.

How much faith should I have in an item that is non-returnable and non-refundable?

I asked myself the same but decided to try it out.  This is the older "classic" model but still works with the current app.  I finally got started with it this week and it seems to work well tracking activity based on motion sensing.  Also uses GPS to track distance and elevation change on cycling, walking and running workouts.  I like it after a week of getting started and trying different features.  Don't know yet if it will become a lifestyle.

Is it water proof for swimming?

I don't recommend taking it in water, I had one that the band began bulging.
