Does it need one 8-pin pci power or two 6-pin pci power to run?

It takes two 6-pin power connector but for some strange reason they ship a 2 6-pin to an 8-pin with it which doesn't work I only have one 6-pin power adapter on my power supply so I had to use it plus a 2 Molex to 1 6-pin adapter this is a great graphics card and I love it although it is expensive it is worth it only problem I had is that I had the radon r7-250 it costs roughly 100 box and it works great only problem is with Black Ops 3 it lags so I had to upgrade my graphics card when I did my processor couldn't handle it either so I have to overclock my new graphics card I just spent over $1,500 on my PC and ant upgrading but on all my other games that works 10 times better you can definitely see the increase also make sure you have enough room in your case because it is so big and nearly takes up the whole inside my Wi-Fi card is less than a quarter inch away from the fan on my graphics card

It has 2 6-pin PCIE female jacks.

For some reason, mine included an 8pin male to 2 6 pin female connector, totally useless as it doesn't connect to the card..

As for power thats harder to find a spec for but reading here:
Anandtech review shows power consumption as about 76 watts at idle and peak is ~300 watts

Will this work on a PCI Express 2.0?

Hey! So, the basic answer is that it will work in a 2.0 slot. What will happen is the card will operate at a "reduced performance level." However, it is nothing that could even be noticed by the user. The "drop" in performance amounts to maybe 1%-2% of a functionality loss. If you are worried about it, you can upgrade your motherboard also, but you have to do a little more research at that point, and it would be a good idea to consult a professional.

i currently have a gigabyte 7970 ghz edition amd card.....is this asus card any better?

Upgraded from two 7970's in crossfire to a single ASUS R9 380X after one of the 7970's finally burned out (it was a Sapphire that had served me well, RIP).

So far it seems to be at least as competent if not more, though there are some isolated problems I never saw with the 7970s (ex. Skyrim framerate seems to be way below what it should be, in the 20s and 30s or sometimes worse, and some other older games have similar problems). I haven't had the time to troubleshoot those specific problems yet. Except those sticking points, if I'm using it for newer games it's working pretty nicely and pushes out a solid 60 or close with whatever I throw at it.

Can't speak to its performance on non-gaming tasks, since I bought it for what is essentially a gaming machine.

I run this card on a 520 watt power supply with no problems. My Uninterrupted Power Supply has never reported over 270 watts total consumption, and that is with the entire system running Grand Theft Auto 5.
