How does the plethysmograph work?
Each wave (see image) corresponds to a heart beat and the wave amplitude corresponds to the amount of blood detected. If the wave amplitude is low, this means that your blood perfusion is too low for a reliable read. You should retake your measurement and make sure that your finger is positioned right under the LED lights.

A: Yes. However, we highly recommend using our children pediatric pulse oximeter (B01IDMQK96) instead which is specifically made for children. The finger chamber of the 500C Pulse Oximeter may be too big for children with small fingers. This might affect the accuracy of the reading.

A: It is normal and natural for your SpO2 and/or Pulse rate to fluctuate as the amount of arterial blood pulses and changes with each heartbeat. Also, unlike a thermometer, which gives you a snapshot of your vitals at a particular moment, the pulse oximeter measures your vitals in real-time. A ±3% fluctuation in your SpO2 is considered normal.
