Question 1

Is this licensed SanDisk better for PS5 than a regular compatible USB external SSD?

Accepted Answer

Choose this SanDisk if you want a drive marketed, tested, and approved for PlayStation consoles, with a stated 1,000 MB/s maximum read speed, IP65 protection, and up to 3-meter drop protection. A regular USB drive can also serve as PS5 extended storage if it meets PlayStation’s compatibility requirements; the license is a product-specific assurance, not a requirement for USB storage or a way to play PS5 games directly from the drive.

Question 2

Can this SanDisk external SSD play PS5 games directly, or should I get an internal M.2 SSD?

Accepted Answer

Choose this SanDisk for portable storage and archiving: PS5 games can be stored on USB extended storage, then transferred back to the console when you want to play. Choose a compatible internal M.2 SSD if you want to download, store, and play PS5 games directly from expanded console storage. The SanDisk’s PlayStation license does not change the PS5’s USB-storage gameplay limitation.

Question 3

Should I buy the 1TB SanDisk Extreme for PS5 or the 2TB version?

Accepted Answer

Choose the 1TB version if that capacity is enough for the games you want to archive and you are comfortable moving titles between the drive and console storage. Choose the 2TB version if you want to keep a larger archive on the drive and reduce how often you manage stored games. Both capacities are listed in SanDisk’s PlayStation-licensed Extreme portable SSD range, with read speeds up to 1,000 MB/s.

Question 4

SanDisk Extreme PS5 Portable SSD or Samsung T7 Shield 1TB: which should I choose?

Accepted Answer

Choose the SanDisk if PlayStation licensing, its stated PS5 game-archive use, and its five-year limited warranty are priorities. Choose the Samsung if you prefer its stated 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write speeds; both drives are 1TB, use USB 3.2 Gen 2, and carry an IP65 rating. The SanDisk is rated for read speeds up to 1,000 MB/s and has a five-year limited warranty, while Samsung lists a three-year limited warranty for the T7 Shield. Either can store PS5 games over USB, but PS5 games must be moved to console or M.2 SSD storage to play.

Question 5

Is this SSD a good choice to carry while traveling?

Accepted Answer

It is compact and lightweight at about 69.4g, and it has an IP65 rating and up to 3-meter drop protection. Those features suit portable storage, but they do not make the drive indestructible; back up important files separately.

Question 6

Will this SSD reach its advertised 1,000MB/s speed on my computer?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. Up to 1,000MB/s is the stated maximum sequential read speed; actual performance depends on the computer, USB connection, cable, and usage conditions. A slower compatible USB port can limit transfer speeds.

Question 7

Who is this 1TB external SSD best suited for?

Accepted Answer

It suits PS5 owners who want to store games and move them back to console storage when needed, as well as PC users who need portable external storage. It is less suitable if your main goal is to launch PS5 games directly from the drive or keep a very large game library on a single 1TB device.

Question 8

Is 1TB enough for PS5 game storage?

Accepted Answer

It depends on how many games you want to keep stored. The 1TB capacity can hold multiple games, but large titles can use substantial space; PS5 games stored on this drive must be transferred back to console storage before playing.

Question 9

Is this SSD worth choosing over a cheaper external hard drive?

Accepted Answer

Consider the SSD if faster game transfers and playing compatible PS4 games from external storage matter to you. A hard drive may be a better fit if your priority is storing more games for less, since Reddit discussions describe HDDs as offering more capacity per dollar.

Question 10

Can I play PS5 games directly from this external SSD?

Accepted Answer

No. You can store PS5 games on the drive and transfer them back to the console’s internal storage to play. Compatible PS4 games can be played directly from external storage.
