This Passive LAN Tap enables passive monitoring of ethernet communications. It doesn't require power to function. Same Throwing Star LAN tap function but new sleeker design! A user is meant to connect a host to the host A jack and another host to the host B jack. The passive design of this LAN tap means that packets can only be intercepted one way at a time. Packets sent from host B will appear on tap B and vice versa. To intercept these packets we recommend Wireshark or TCPdump for tools that work out of the box.
It's prudent to make interfaces are in promiscuous mode or packets may not be captured.
For example: If a router was attached to host B and a laptop was attached to host A when the laptop pings the router the ICMP request will appear on tap A and the ICMP reply will appear on tap B.
