Does this item allow you to expand your monitor work space or does it just project the same image onto two different screens?

It only projects the same image on two different screens. Duplication of original image from source unit. I use this for multi-screens of security cameras in different rooms. Make sure you use correct DVI connection that your source is utilizing or it will not work. I.E. count the number of pin outs on your current cable being used or read the cable sheathing for its labeling definition; e.g. DVI single or dual layer.

Will this product be compatible with an iPad? I would like to play the content of one iPad on two monitors simultaneously (both audio and visual). If I order this product will it work for that purpose?

I did not have good results using an apple computer for the HDMI out put to more than one TV, Had to copy the files to a PC laptop to run the video
