Question 1

What particular model of battery comes with this charger?  I would assume either BK-4MCC or BK-3MCC, but wanted to be sure.

Question 2

MUST this charger be used vertically, as the instructions indicate, or can it be used horizontally? I recived my charger today and I regard this limitation as a huge nuisense.

I don't see why it couldn't be used horizontally. The only reason I could think that they say that is because the batteries might fall out. I think you will be fine with having the charger sideways.

Will this charger work with other rechargeable batteries( Energizer, Duracell, etc) and can other chargers be used with eneloop batteries?

Yes, this advanced charger will charge other brands of NiMH rechargeable batteries. The charging current is 300mA for AA cells and 150mA for AAA. It charges 1-4 cells individually which prevents overcharging. The charger also has battery sensing technology which prevents non-rechargeable batteries from being charged as well as overheat shutdown protection. Other chargers designed to charge NiMH batteries will also charge the eneloop batteries. Just be careful when selecting a charger. There are a lot of "dumb" chargers out there that will overcharge your batteries and shorten their life. I'd stick with this charger to do the brunt of your charging.

When fully charged, it is close to 1.5V. The standard for NiMH batteries is that above 1.2V is considered still charged
