Pros: It burns DVDs and CDs very well, provided it's set up right. Once you get the setup up correct you will have no problems. Very fast and quiet.
Cons: Very picky about the media it likes. Will only burn 16x on high end DVD's. Otherwise 8x is the highest it will go. The same is true with CDs. If it's high end it will burn 40x, otherwise 32x is the highest it will go.
Overall Review: As long as the setup is correct, this drive is great. It should be connected with an 80-wire IDE cable and I recommend making it the master drive. The DMA should be on at Ultra DMA Mode 4 and the firmware should be updated to v1.37. I have found the best burning results to be with Verbatim or Sony media. Stick with either of those and you will be fine. As a side note, if you are using Nero 6 Ultra, you may experience a Disc-At-Once issue while burning Audio CDs. Downloading the wnapsi32.dll file directly from nero.com and replacing the old file in the Nero folder with this one should solve that problem. Otherwise this drive is quiet and fast. Pioneer’s tech support is pretty good too although they have some long hold times.
