How many speakers are there ?

This is a set of 2 floor standing speakers.
Each of the floor standing speakers contain 3 speakers and a tweeter

Question 2

What is the input method?  Can they connect to an Ipod?

There is a set of 5-way binding posts on the back of the speaker. The primary connection would be with bare wire, spade lugs or bananas.

The only way to have an iPod connect is to put an amplifier or receiver between the speakers and the iPod.

Question 3

We are setting up our computer to show on our TV and want to know if this can be plugged into a normal audio output for a computer?

I have the audio from my computer connected to an  A/V Receiver and these speakers are connected to the receiver.  
Even if you theoretically could connect these speakers directly to your computer - if you purchased adapters - the computer is not going to generate sufficient wattage to drive them.

So you will need to get yourself an audio receiver to do that.  My receiver is about 15 years old and does not handle HDMI, so I'm considering the Yamaha RX-V375.

Question 4

I'm young and somewhat uneducated about how to hook up external speakers to a TV. Do I need anything else for these speakers to work with my TV? Or do I just buy them and i'm good to go?

Well I'm not sure just HOW inexperienced you are about audio equipment, so I guess to start, the first thing that needs to be mentioned is that these are conventional audio speakers we're talking about -- the kind that use conventional speaker wire (which is not provided, BTW).

They are not necessarily made for "plugging into" a TV directly. They require a power source that's independent of whatever device that will be driving them.

That's a long way of saying that if you don't already, you're going to want to have some kind of amplifier or audio/video receiver to which BOTH the speakers and the TV are connected to if you want to make them work.

I hope that makes sense. Bottom line is, these speakers, which I myself own and consider a great deal at this price, are intended to be a part of an overall entertainment system. They do not come with their own power supply.

Again, I like mine a lot, but you should consider what I've mentioned here before purchasing them.

Question 5

What connector do I use to connect the wire to the speaker?

Either a banana plug or raw wire to the terminals on the back. In order to do the raw,wire you need to fully unscrew the terminals and remove the red and plastic tabs and screw the terminals back down.

Can I use these with my HDTV?

Accepted Answer

I doubt it. The speakers need power, i.e. a speaker amp, a powered PA mixer or a home theater receiver.

Question 7

Will these speakers work directly with a LED TV without any other ampliefiers? And if they will, would the quality of audio be compromised in any way?

Accepted Answer

No they will not.  These are what is called "passive" speakers since they are not self powered and require a receiver/amplifier to function.  Almost all speakers on the market are like this.  Your best bet for speakers that work only with a TV is a sound bar otherwise you will want to purchase a receiver (worth it in my book).

Question 8

I have a pair of these. They sound good but why does it seem likeonly the tweeter and the top woofer is working?

Its almost like there isn't any sound coming from the bottom two woofers. They do move and vibrate when i turn the music up but that can be due to the vibration made by the top woofer?

Has anyone else noticed this? Its hard to tell cause we can't remove the grill without ruining it.

I looked at the specs for the speakers on pioneers website. It indicates one of the three 5 1/4 in speakers is actually a midrange woofer and the other two are lower end woofers. So one of them probably would move more than the others.

Question 9

I have a 1400 watt preamp. May I use these speakers with that large of a preamp?

These are rated at 200 watts. I am driving them with 90 watts and I could use a lot more.  While they sound great, they truly are power pigs. With as much power as you are talking about, you'd have to be careful not to try to blow the doors by cranking up the volume, but you should be ok as long as you keep the volume a reasonable levels. You will also read several reviews stating that these speakers need a break in period. This is definitely the case. I have only run mine about 30 hours so far, and they continue to sound better with time.

Question 10

if i order 2 sets of these will i get 100.00 back rebate?

It is limited to one per house hold.  You can get someone you know to purchase the 2nd set.
