FT-80x Series
10/100Base-TX to 100Base-FX Bridge Media Converters
Quick Summary
The PLANET FT-80x is a quick Ethernet Bridge 100Base-FX fiber to 10/100Base-TX shielded twisted pair (TP) converter. It provides an ideal way for building a network solution of FTTH (Fiber to the Home), FTTC (Fiber to the Curb) or FTTB (Fiber to the Building) for ISPs, campuses and enterprises.
The PLANET FT-80x supports both half-duplex and full-duplex operations and a variety of fiber options. It can automatically adapt to the highest level of performance supported by the device connected to the STP port. When the connected device is a switch or a workstation that supports full duplex, it adapts to the full-duplex mode and provides an effective 200Mbps bandwidth. When the connected device is a hub or a workstation that supports only half duplex, it adapts to the half-duplex mode and provides the nominal 100Mbps bandwidth.
The PLANET FT-80x offers a manual option in the fiber optic interface that allows for complete control over half and full duplex modes. The fiber port of the converter operates at 1310 nm and uses ST, SC, MTRJ, VF45 or WDM connectors. The multi-mode models support distances up to 2km. The single-mode models support distances up to 15/20/35/50/60km.
The PLANET FT-80x is with LFP (Link Fault Pass-through function which includes LLCF and LLR and the DIP switch design. The DIP switch provides the disabling or enabling of the LFP function. LLCF/LLR can immediately alert administrators to the problem of the link media and provide efficient solution to monitoring the net.
LLCF (Link Loss Carry Forward) means when a device is connected to the converter and the TP line loses the link, the converter's fiber will disconnect the link of transmission. LLR (Link Loss Return) means when a device is connected to the converter and the fiber line loses the link, the converter's fiber will disconnect the transmission link.

The PLANET FT-806A20 is a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet-to-single-mode fiber converter with an SC connection, designed for compatible WDM links up to 20 km; it suits network installers extending Fast Ethernet between locations.
Recommended For
- Network installers extending a 10/100 Ethernet connection between buildings or network rooms over single-mode fiber, where a 20 km link budget and a matching FT-806B20 at the far end fit the installation.
- IT teams keeping legacy Fast Ethernet switches or other 10/100 Ethernet equipment in service while connecting it to a compatible single-mode fiber link.
- Campus, enterprise, or service-provider installers building a fiber-to-building or similar link that needs a copper Ethernet handoff at the endpoint and operates at Fast Ethernet speeds.
- Technicians maintaining a WDM single-mode fiber connection who need the A-side converter with 1310 nm transmit and 1550 nm receive wavelengths, paired with the opposite-wavelength B-side unit.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- When a switch or router in one building needs to connect to a copper-Ethernet network in another, the converter can carry the 10/100 link over an existing single-mode fiber run; the far end needs a compatible converter with the opposite WDM wavelength.
- At a remote network closet or site with single-mode fiber already in place, it can connect a 10/100 Ethernet switch or other copper-port device to the main network without running a long copper Ethernet cable; the actual reach depends on the fiber link and compatible equipment at both ends.
- Where a network service or fiber backbone provides a compatible 100BASE-FX handoff but a firewall, router, or switch has only an RJ45 Ethernet port, the converter bridges the fiber connection to that copper port; it is for Fast Ethernet, not a gigabit-speed upgrade.
- For a legacy 10/100 Ethernet device that needs to communicate across a longer fiber route, it converts the device’s copper Ethernet connection to 100BASE-FX; the device still operates at its supported Ethernet speed, and the far end must use compatible fiber equipment.
- When troubleshooting a fiber-connected Ethernet link, its Link Fault Pass Through feature can help make a link failure visible across the connection, which can narrow down whether the issue is on the copper or fiber side.
