FT-80x Series
10/100Base-TX to 100Base-FX Bridge Media Converters
Quick Summary
The PLANET FT-80x is a quick Ethernet Bridge 100Base-FX fiber to 10/100Base-TX shielded twisted pair (TP) converter. It provides an ideal way for building a network solution of FTTH (Fiber to the Home), FTTC (Fiber to the Curb) or FTTB (Fiber to the Building) for ISPs, campuses and enterprises.
The PLANET FT-80x supports both half-duplex and full-duplex operations and a variety of fiber options. It can automatically adapt to the highest level of performance supported by the device connected to the STP port. When the connected device is a switch or a workstation that supports full duplex, it adapts to the full-duplex mode and provides an effective 200Mbps bandwidth. When the connected device is a hub or a workstation that supports only half duplex, it adapts to the half-duplex mode and provides the nominal 100Mbps bandwidth.
The PLANET FT-80x offers a manual option in the fiber optic interface that allows for complete control over half and full duplex modes. The fiber port of the converter operates at 1310 nm and uses ST, SC, MTRJ, VF45 or WDM connectors. The multi-mode models support distances up to 2km. The single-mode models support distances up to 15/20/35/50/60km.
The PLANET FT-80x is with LFP (Link Fault Pass-through function which includes LLCF and LLR and the DIP switch design. The DIP switch provides the disabling or enabling of the LFP function. LLCF/LLR can immediately alert administrators to the problem of the link media and provide efficient solution to monitoring the net.
LLCF (Link Loss Carry Forward) means when a device is connected to the converter and the TP line loses the link, the converter's fiber will disconnect the link of transmission. LLR (Link Loss Return) means when a device is connected to the converter and the fiber line loses the link, the converter's fiber will disconnect the transmission link.

The PLANET FT-806B20 is a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet-to-fiber media converter for network teams extending compatible single-mode WDM links up to 20 km over SC fiber; its transmit wavelength is 1550 nm and receive wavelength is 1310 nm.
Recommended For
- Network installers extending a 10/100 Ethernet connection between buildings or remote network points over single-mode fiber, where a link of up to 20 km fits the route.
- Teams connecting existing Fast Ethernet equipment to a single-mode WDM fiber run with SC connectors, when they can use a compatible FT-806A20 at the other end.
- Campus, branch-office, or ISP network technicians adding a fiber segment to legacy 10/100BASE-TX devices without replacing the copper-side equipment.
- Installers building a fixed Ethernet link who want link-fault pass-through behavior to help identify a broken link.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- Connecting a branch office to a main-site Ethernet network over an existing single-mode fiber run: pair the FT-806B20 with an FT-806A20 at the other end, and the link carries 10/100 Ethernet between the two locations.
- Extending a 10/100 Ethernet connection between buildings: use the converters at each end to bridge copper network equipment across a single-mode fiber span, instead of relying on a long copper run.
- Providing a fiber uplink to a building or remote network segment with 10/100 equipment: the converter links the copper Ethernet side to a 100BASE-FX fiber network, while keeping the connection at Fast Ethernet speeds.
- Using a single fiber strand for a point-to-point Ethernet link: WDM sends and receives over that strand, reducing the need for a second fiber; the link requires the complementary FT-806A20 at the far end.
- Troubleshooting a remote Ethernet-over-fiber connection: with link-fault pass-through enabled, a fault on one side can be reflected to the other side, helping network staff identify that the end-to-end link is not healthy.
