can this headset be used with android phones. I have seen boxes that say apple on it ?

This device works perfectly fine with ANY Bluetooth enabled device including Android and Apple devices.  In addition, if you have laptops with BT it will work perfectly fine with that device as well.

The only limiting factor is that the device requires Bluetooth.

how are these holding up now to the people who had them for a year?

I bought my pair on September 22, 2014 and they are still working amazingly. I use them a LOT, during the evening before bed to listen to soft music, during the early morning baby soothing sessions, and many other times.  They have not lost their charge at all to this point.  They are still the most comfortable pair of BT headphones I have ever owned.

I do not use them much while exercising, so I cannot talk to the water proofing or sweat proofing that they provide.  The few times I have worn them while sweating has not caused any issues whatsoever.

The only issue I can see becoming a problem is the pullout piece for the mini USB port.  You sort of dig your nail into the mini USB port cover to pull it off.  So far it has remained perfectly intact even after many charging sessions, but I do feel like it is a little on the flimsy side.  However, a year and half later and it has not broken off as of yet.
