ASUS ML248H 24" Full HD HDMI Swivel & Tilt Adjustable LED Backlight LCD Monitor Slim Design 250 cd/m2 ASCR 10,000,000:1
ASUS ML248H 24" Full HD HDMI Swivel & Tilt Adjustable LED Backlight LCD Monitor Slim Design 250 cd/m2 ASCR 10,000,000:1

Pros: Amazing picture with stunning resolution. Nice size and width. Nice frame once you get over the big black bar at the bottom. Good sensible controls despite not having any actual buttons. It's all finger swiping. This took some getting used to but now it's the only monitor I've ever had where I enjoy turning it on and off. It's true what they say about eye strain and lack thereof. The Asus is an overly bright monitor. Compared to my old one it's like staring into a lighthouse at point blank range, yet amazingly I can do this for hours and not feel that old familiar tingling pain on the sides of my eyes.

Cons: Not for graphics professionals or anyone needing consistent colors from the top of the screen to the bottom. The top will always come in overly saturated while the bottom is a bit washed out - and no amount of fiddling with the controls will fix this. Luckily I am no longer a graphics professional, but still it annoys me to no end. The Asus is also very sensitive to viewing angles:up, down, left, right. The stand tilts and turns, but you don't have to shift in your stance more than a few inches and the far edges of the screen begin to get wonky. I went to Best Buy and bought a LG LCD monitor to replace this one. It too had the discoloration although not as intensely. Unfortunately the picture wasn't nearly as nice and certainly not worth the $80 extra it would take to RMA the Asus and keep the LG, so I took it back and decided to stay with the Asus. It could just be that this discoloration just comes natural to high resolution monitors.

Overall Review: I was not happy when I set this monitor up. In fact I was steaming mad. However, if my old Westinghouse monitor hadn't died on me first, I'm sure I could have put them side by side and seen that the Asus is by far the superior monitor. After a week of using it constantly and not feeling like I've been punched in the face with eye strain, I have to say that I am actually quite happy with it.

Serious Studio Headphones

Samson Z45 Closed-Back Over-Ear Professional Studio Headphones, Black
Samson Z45 Closed-Back Over-Ear Professional Studio Headphones, Black

Pros: These are great if you are into recording or editing audio. You will hear things you did not even think were there to be heard. It's like having an ultra high-definition TV set for your ears. They are quality. Kudos to Samson for including a spring coil cord which does not have one of those stupid volume controls whose only real purpose is to someday break and force you to buy another set of headphones.

Cons: They are not for everyone. They do not sit lightly on the head, and they are designed to play the whole sound that is there, focusing on the mid-range rather than the bass. Once again, this is studio equipment. It is not something you would use for a fun listening experience.

Not Impressed

Samsung 64GB BAR (Metal) USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Speed Up to 150MB/s (MUF-64BA/AM)
Samsung 64GB BAR (Metal) USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Speed Up to 150MB/s (MUF-64BA/AM)

Pros: The size is nice. The construction is solid. The price is great.

Cons: It writes slower than my grandma. It is very slippery and would do well with some treading of some sort.

Overall Review: Maybe I'm just not used to it yet but I do find it annoying to use. When it lays flat on the table it is hard to pick up. It's not as easy as my other keys to pop in and out of the side of my laptop. I feel like I should be putting a finger beneath it to help angle it in. This key would definitely do well to have rubber tread wrap of some sort.

I wouldn't bother with it again.

Pros: Kinda works

Cons: Kinda doesn't work, no double click, just blehh all around.

Almost...

Logitech G13 (920-000946) Advanced Gameboard
Logitech G13 (920-000946) Advanced Gameboard

Pros: Lots of buttons. Looks nice. Feels solid. Good programming interface. Good profile management. Good response time. The software was a big perk after dealing with the Nostromo's. It does not arc like the Nostromo so your hand moves around more freely.

Cons: Not a Nostromo - does not easily toggle between modes, no scroll wheel, often too many buttons, four way toggler is surprisingly easy to get wrong. The G13's approach to modes is somewhat useless since there are just too many keys on the board.

Overall Review: It's easy for your hand to get lost on the G13. I had to take a glue gun and splat down bumps on the keys to remind my fingers of where they are. I really and truly miss the scroll wheel on the Nostromo. Oh well, all the game pads are dropping it. Stupidity can be contagious when the price is right. I'm not as happy as I was with my old Nostromo speed pad - but it broke and the newer models are not as impressive.
