The most reliable hub available.
Pros: Will feed many high-power sucking devices. Never "disappears" and "reappears" like other hubs have done in the past. I love the layout, 2 top ports for easy access, the rest hidden behind for a clean look.
Cons: May tilt up if cables in back tug on it.
Overall Review: I have one on each of my 7 computers. Buy this one and never complain again.
A reliable charging system, finally!
Pros: With all of the power supplies that flat-out don't work, it's nice to find one that holds a charge and powers everything. I've had it for about 6 months now. I use it with my eSATA portable drives to back up video shoots. It allows me the speed of eSATA without having to find an outlet. I can back up for hours on this thing. I can also charge my phone, iPod and iPad as well. The 1 amp port is fine for the ipod, but that wonderful 2 amp is what you buy this for. It gives wicked fast charges, as fast as a wall charger. And my hard drives won't spin up with 1 amp. I've bought those gigantic Energizer chargers that are supposed to run a laptop (but don't) and they just don't hold a charge. I can rely on this thing. Love it.
Cons: none, really
Tiny Rugged and e-SATA!
Pros: This is a very slim enclosure with a lot of features in a footprint not much larger than the drive.
Cons: 7200 rpm drives may get a bit hot
Overall Review: Have been using this on a regular basis. I have always found Vantec to make well-thought-out and high quality products and this is no exception. The e-SATA speeds allow me to offload XDCAM video files quickly, and I can edit directly on the drive, or offload just as quickly. USB 2 makes a nice option if you need to connect to a computer that doesn't sport e-SATA. 7200 rpm drives get a bit hot since there is no fan, but that's what you get for the tiny size. If you want a fan, you need a significantly larger enclosure. Since it only takes 3 minutes to offload a 32 gig card, I opt for the smaller size without the fan. Again, it is all metal, very rugged, and Vantec makes reliable products.
Perfect for SSDs
Pros: Ingenious design, solid construction. I love the way that the drive slides into the connectors when the lid is closed. If you have a backplane and a new SSD, then this is the perfect solution.
Cons: Solid as heck, but made of plastic, not aluminum. I would not suggest placing a Savvio 15k SAS drive in this unless you have front-to-back airflow as it only has slots in those locations and not on the sides.
The fastest USB drive.
Pros: Super fast reads and about the fastest writes you can get in a USB drive. I move large files of 1-8 gigs each, and this drive does it painlessly. Of course, you need to reformat it to NTFS for multi-gig files. I own 4 and none have died. Very sturdy and a nice feel to the aluminum.
Cons: No cap retainer, so you will lose the cap eventually.
Overall Review: I have a few other drives from the better manufacturers, but I will only buy the Rally in the future unless a new tech comes along.
Next best thing to 15k SAS
Pros: Very fast seek times, whisper quiet, extremely reliable so far.
Cons: Wish they made it in 15k rpm, even at twice the price.
