Awesome Motherboard
Pros: Excellent layout. Abit GURU utility. 6 internal SATA ports, I needed all of them! Overclocking abilities and settings seem to go on forever. Big Artic Freezer 7 Pro CPU cooler fit and cleared all motherboard factory installed heat sinks. Quality build.
Cons: I really can not think of one.
Overall Review: I am completely satisfied with this motherboard. It commands its price perfectly. I have a Q6600 running at 3.1ghz with air cooling, could probably go further but I do a lot of Photoshop work and want a VERY STABLE running workstation.
One flaw
Pros: Very solid enclosure but....
Cons: The SATA connector will not allow a SATA cable with a clip to "clip" in place. Only seats and can be pulled right off. I like my connectors to click and lock in place when possible especially a cable carrying all my data to and from my SSD.
Overall Review: Fix the "click" issue and you have one fine little enclosure!
Fantastic Little MoBo
Pros: Feature rich Bios that is exceedingly easy to use. I got way more that I was expecting when I bought this little board for a HTPC to stream from my Plex Server. BTW audio via HDMI on the motherboard works great. Boots very quick with SSD and UEFI. The board seems like it is build well, very solid circuit board and components. Not flimsy, very solid. It has only been up and running for a few days so this review is based on initial install. Great price, awesome board. Oh did I mention you can update teh bios without the OS installed while you are in the bios? Seriously awesome, while in the bios it will grab an IP via DHCP go out and find the latest bios.
Cons: None. Really I am beyond satisfied.
It works better than air
Pros: Close sealed system, easy to install unless your case does not allow access to the back of the motherboard where the cpu sits, dropped temps over my ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 (not that the Arctic is bad its great) but the liquid cools simply works better. My Core i7-860 Lynnfield native 2.8ghz cpu @4ghz running prime95 all cores and threads stressed to the max for hours showed core temps between 68-72c, compared to the air cooling that shot up to 80c in minutes. Sweet cooler, buy one if you are an over clocker otherwise an aftermarket cooler is all you need at stock clock speeds for a cool CPU.
Cons: A little more effort is required to install this versus air, no surprise and overall it is worth the 20-30 minutes it might take.
Overall Review: If your case does not allow access to the back of the motherboard opposite the CPU you will have to remove your MB for installation. I have the Antec 900 case so it was a breeze since there is a cutout in the case (MB tray). There are two fans with this system, I put one push fan attached to the radiator inside the case and another pull fan outside the case using the screws to hold the fan outside and the screws go through the case and to the radiator inside keeping everything in tact. This replaces the fan in the back of your case usually behind the CPU. The instructions do not really give you a diagram on the fan/radiator installation, its up to you to do this. To make the above work I had to cut off the case fan grille as it protruded out and the screws were then not long enough.
Lovin' it!
Pros: Very impressive. I have not seen anything more impressive than SSD in the past ten years. Sure things got faster, but this really makes your system scream! Every application I launch instantly makes going to another computer with a Hard Drive intolerable!
Cons: None, price point is respectable given the speed and size. I'm sure in 2-5 years this will be $100 and the norm.
Overall Review: If it lasts 5 years I'll be happy, but only time will tell!
Fatal SATA 6 flaw with Win 7
Pros: Nothing super special about this board versus previous ASUS boards I have bought. Seems things have not changed too much in the past year or so. 4ghz is possible with Intel i7-860, pretty impressive but needs more than air cooling for a prime95 looong test so I'm at 3.6ghz air cooled, not bad. Water cooling?
Cons: There is a known Marvell SATA 6 driver issue with Windows 7, blue screens at random. Had to put my Crucial RealSSD C300 on the old Intel SATA controller. Little did I know when I bought it this problem existed until I googled the the driver that displayed on the windows blue screen! This seems to happen after installing the latest drivers from Asus website, go figure. Why do they insist on putting the SATA connectors on the side making it a pain to connect and disconnect drives? Minor problem but seems like an easy fix to have the connectors facing straight up!
Overall Review: Wanted a motherboard with SATA 6 and USB 3, I have a MB where SATA 6 does not work. I know/hope Asus will correct this somehow.
