Most Favorable Review

Couple of issues, but pretty cool

CORSAIR Hydro Series H70 Core High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
CORSAIR Hydro Series H70 Core High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

Pros: Dropped the temperature on my Sandy Bridge E by over 10C. Despite the bad installation instructions, once you figure it out, it is pretty easy to install.

Cons: Bad instructions is the first thing to notice, i.e. plastic knobs go on the screw holes on the bracket before you install it. I am removing an egg because this unit comes with only a two pin connector. Effectively, this means that the fan will be blasting at full speed all the time, make sure to pick a quiet fan.

Overall Review: I am getting high 60s temperature on 6 core SBE at full load in a relatively warm room (maybe 77F). When I mean full load, I mean MATLAB with 12 threads working at 100%, this is a lot more than the regular games would do. The radiator may not fit in all boxes, mine is pretty big, but you should read and measure for your box.

Runs bad under Linux

XFX Radeon HD 4850 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card HD-485X-ZDFC
XFX Radeon HD 4850 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card HD-485X-ZDFC

Pros: Good specs.

Cons: The ATI driver for Linux is bad. The thing runs, but every so often there are lags and stagger (like when I open 2 Chrome windows with just google and one shell). It is bad for wine games too. I did spend quite some time on different forums researching how to fix the problem, but I only managed to get it to where it is bearable for the purpose of browsing and media. It lags and staggers compiz, xfwm4 (with and without composition, even though the second one is better) and wine. The default driver runs more things (but doesn't provide good 3D acceleratoin). Tested with Ubuntu 9.10 and Xubuntu 10.04 (beta2) and in both cases NV 8600GT works better.

Overall Review: It is probably good for windows, so I am not going to give it the lowest rating.

Solid Build, Good Airflow

Fractal Design Meshify 2 Black ATX Flexible Mid Tower Computer Case
Fractal Design Meshify 2 Black ATX Flexible Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: - integrated fan hub on the top of the back, very good for cable management - 3x140mm fans in the front, 2 pre-installed and just enough room an extra Noctua 140mm - just enough room on the bottom to put a 120mm intake next to the PSU - can support many HDD slots with good cooling

Cons: - top has mount for 240mm AOI rad, but I don't think there's enough clearance for a motherboard with large VRM cooling (haven't tested it, just doesn't look enough) - wish there was an extra fan on the side of the case to blow right on the GPU - the PSU shroud cannot be fully removed and tweaking the modular cables is hard as it requires partially pulling out the PSU which is not pleasant if everything is already connected and cable-managed

Overall Review: Very easy to build in and the builtin fan hub works well for cable management. This has been the cleanest cable management build I've ever done. Unfortunately, like all modern cases, there is no proper intake from the side to blow on the GPU, but the bottom fan is OK.

CPU Good, Fan Cheap

Intel Core i7-4790S - Core i7 4th Gen Haswell Quad-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1150 65W Intel HD Graphics 4600 Desktop Processor - BX80646I74790S
Intel Core i7-4790S - Core i7 4th Gen Haswell Quad-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1150 65W Intel HD Graphics 4600 Desktop Processor - BX80646I74790S

Pros: Low energy, low heat, yet fast CPU. The integrated video is enough for regular work, no need for dedicated video card (I have a separate gaming machine)

Cons: The CPU fan is really cheap. The low heat CPU doesn't need much in terms of cooling, but the fan isn't as quite as it should be, the blades a a bit exposed (careful with cables), and the construction feels very flimsy.

Overall Review: Be careful to not have any cables near the CPU fan, its own cable can get stuck in the blades.

Got a used one, great box

Cooler Master HAF 922 - High Air Flow Mid Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0 and All-Black Interior
Cooler Master HAF 922 - High Air Flow Mid Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0 and All-Black Interior

Pros: Big, heavy and stable, lots of air flow. Even without the back 102mm fan, it keeps my G/CPU as cool as the old small box with 4 fans.

Cons: Big and heavy. Biggest problem is that the 3.5'' trays should have been shifted 0.5 - 1'' to the side. As is, there is barely enough room for the HDD cables. The HDD are also not as stable as if you had used screws directly to attach directly to the box.

Overall Review: Make sure your cables are long, especially the ones for motherboard and CPU power. This is Mid-Tower, but it is only an inch shorted than a standard Full-Tower and the case is much bigger than most Mid-Tower cases.

Best thing ever

APEX TX-381-C Black Steel Micro ATX Tower Computer Case
APEX TX-381-C Black Steel Micro ATX Tower Computer Case

Pros: Light and portable. Plenty of room for a micro ATX board. Everything fits perfectly. Fan gives good airflow.

Cons: Not too sturdy, but t wouldn't be light otherwise.

Overall Review: This is great for a small portable machine.
