noisy but gets the job done
Pros: Does everything it claims. Worked flawlessly from the start.
Cons: Noisy fan. I installed this in a closet mounted on a wall, near some bedrooms.I was concerned it might be a little too loud but when I shut the closet door it was just barely noticeable.
Overall Review: Lowest price I could find on the web for an 8 port PoE switch. Would be nice if it had a sperate non PoE uplink port so I could make use of all 8 PoE ports.
Have to reboot it every few days
Pros: I like the traffic manager, and the UI in general is fairly well layed out.
Cons: I'm growing tired of having to reboot this router every few days because the connections start to lag severely. This is happening sometimes just wireless and sometimes just wired connections. For example, I have a monitor next to my desk that displays several CCTV cameras 24x7. About once a week I'll notice the cameras are rendering about 1fps instead of the default 20fps. So I reboot the router and everything is back to normal. Similarly, with wireless I use Synergy to control multiple computers via a single keyboard and mouse. Several times now I have seen the mouse responsiveness on remote Synergy computers (located within 10 feet of the router via 5GHz) suddenly get very sluggish, to the point it's unusable. But once again, I reboot the router and immediately all is well again. This is one of the few times that I regret paying a premium for a 'great' device because it had such raving reviews only to find out it's really not that great at all.
Do not buy. Never ending wait for new updates.
Pros: - Easy to use
Cons: - Incomplete forms - Misleading estimated dates for required updates - Updates arrive and inform of needing to wait 2 more weeks for another update - Federal eFile was rejected with the reason "software update required" - Been trying to file for over 2 months - Missing form 8911 (alt fuel refueling credit) with the company saying they will not be providing it.
Overall Review: I finally gave up on this after trying to file for 2 months and failing miserably due to incomplete forms and the software requiring updates. The updates arrive and when I restart it tells me I need to wait 2 more weeks for another update. This happened repeatedly until mid March when it finally let me e-file only for the IRS to instantly reject it and tell me the software is incorrect and needs another update. I switched to the IRS online form file system and e-filed that way with no issues.
So far so good
Pros: Filled it half way up with data and so far it's working as expected. I was aware of the top speed before I purchased it and felt it was a fair price for what I got. I also like that I can pop off the swivel cover piece and am left with a simple, low profile thumb drive.
Cons: None so far.
Overall Review: I have had mediocre results with larger capacity flash drives, so I'll certainly be back to re-review this if it stops working like has happened to me with other USB flash drive brands. But, so far, so good.
Partially works
Pros: It wasn't DOA, so that's a plus.
Cons: USB 3.0 ports don't work under current linux Kernel. 2.6.38-.39.
Using with Ubuntu 9.10/Karmic
Pros: Strong signal strength even with router on a separate floor from USB adapter
Cons: Struggled for a couple hours getting this working with Ubuntu 9.10 on a 64-bit AMD system
Overall Review: If you want to use this with Ubuntu 9.10, you might run across websites that advise you to blacklist rt2800usb and rt2870sta from modprobe in order to force it to use rt3070sta. This didn't work well with my WPA2 secured network so I blacklisted rt2800usb and rt3070sta instead, and then added rt2870sta to the /etc/modules file to force it to use rt2870sta. It then worked after rebooting and all is well. I also tried to build the linux driver v2.1.1 from Rosewill's website but it failed to compile, complaining about net_device struct issues. I gave up since the above-mention solution seemed to be stable.
