Inexpensive Enhancements

Kingston ValueRAM 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Laptop Memory Model KVR533D2S4/1G
Kingston ValueRAM 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Laptop Memory Model KVR533D2S4/1G

Pros: Savings is a huge benifit for this memory. Having worked at a semiconductor myself, I know the actual market value of whats given to the public, and the Newegg price for this 1gb stick from Kingston is spot on. PC4200 DDR2 RAM is on average 15-25% cheaper than PC2700 RAM these days, which also pulls less power than PC2700. Which is why I am very pleased with the perf of my Dell 9300 with this module compared to older notebooks/desktops with the soon to be extinct PC2700.

Cons: Price fluctuations vary in the semiconductor market, and Newegg rides the waves of that consumer based market. So I would suggest sitting tight if you bought 1 stick of this until after the holiday push so that you can reap the rewards of overall cheaper prices. Newegg will definately get my christmas money!

Nice Case but...

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0

Pros: Good and sturdy build and has held up pretty well over the course of nearly 2 years. Antec brand and useful cable system and USB3. Overall a good deal if you can get it on sale. Plenty of fans but see cons..

Cons: About 1.5 years after I bought this, the top 200mm fan started to make noises. I have nothing on top of the case and always try to keep the fans clean, but the top fan has seemed to succumb to gravity and sag from the top bracket, causing it to hit the metal frame of the case and stop the fan altogether. I have taken everything apart and tried to clean and re-position the fan at the top, but after a few hours, it starts to fall again and rattle, then stop. I have moved around the other fans in the case to work out airflow/heat issues on my AMD 965BE as it puts out a lot of heat, but the lack of the 200mm top fan starts to worry me on all of my components now. Just note that it isnt easy to get to that 200mm fan if yours starts to fall.

Overall Review: My older Rosewill case has had its fans running with no probs for nearly 2.5 years and cost a fraction of the price. A shame as I have an Antec PSU and wanted to keep the brand in my builds.

Great Mobo/CPU Combo

ASRock X570 EXTREME4 AM4 AMD X570 ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock X570 EXTREME4 AM4 AMD X570 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: No issues at all out of the box with Ryzen 3600. Running all RAM at XMP max of 3200 and I like the hidden m2 slots. So far seems to be a very well built board, and I have had very good experiences with ASRock boards. Lighting effects are subtle and works well for me as I'm not a millennial and in need of constant flashing lights. :)

Cons: Knew it when I got it, but I wish it had a simple Wifi/BT card installed. Not a difficult add, but would have been nice to have.

Overall Review: This review for ASRock review rebate program.

Great MicroSD

SAMSUNG Plus 16GB microSDHC Class 10 Flash Card Model MB-MPAGC/AM
SAMSUNG Plus 16GB microSDHC Class 10 Flash Card Model MB-MPAGC/AM

Pros: Great read/write speeds well beyond the advertised specs. I am getting sustained Reads close to 80MB/s and Write times at 17MB/s. It is much faster than my other Class 10/UH1 rated 16GB cards. Works great in my DLSR and I plan on getting some more when they go on sale.

Cons: I wish I knew these were this good, or I would have gotten the 32GB card.

Overall Review: I continuously am impressed with Samsung products, I have HDD's, TV's, flash memory, phones, and even microwaves that seem to perform just as good or better than I had hoped for. Thanks South Korea!

Faulty RAID

SYBA SY-PCI40010 PCI SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) RAID Controller Card
SYBA SY-PCI40010 PCI SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) RAID Controller Card

Pros: I wanted to add a RAID10 to my WHS2011, and this seemed to offer good reviews and an inexpensive option. Installed well the first time....

Cons: I installed the OS from scratch again as I didnt have much on the server to begin with, and one stick of RAM was bad, so I started again. The RAID drivers were installed from the website, and rebooted, then it caught some updated drivers, then rebooted. Once all 4 ports were populated with 2TB drives and setup the RAID in the card BIOS, it would come up in windows only after I set the HDD boot sequence to look at my primary HDD instead of this array. But that was a MB/BIOS setting. Once in the OS, the drives were populated as two mirrored 1.8TB drives, which I could tell Windows to stripe and give me the RAID10. Reboot, and nothing. Reset BIOS, clear RAID10 array and try again. Nothing. So I try again from scratch, and this time after all updates and patching, it is shows up as a 3.7TB drive. I check for updates, patch and it all looks good. Then I start to populate the array with 30GB of movies. Within 1 hour, it froze, and rebooted into a loop and when I try to boot up fully, I constantly get bluescreens. I have already wasted too much time with this thing, that I will just take another route.

Overall Review: All drives in the array passed all SMART tests and have functioned perfectly for the past month without the RAID card.

50% DOA

Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1339DS1S00
Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1339DS1S00

Pros: I was building my new home server and had only one stick of this in for a few weeks. I figured I would go for another stick when it went on sale, and unfortunately it came DOA. Failed Memtest, and ended up just going with one stick in the server for now.

Cons: Price has gone up again and I dont want to take the chance and time to try to get another right now. Hopefully I just got a lemon on the second stick.

Overall Review: I usually get Gskill on all of my other builds and have had a near 100% success rate when going with them for the past 8 years. I may just stick with them.

Impressive Little M-ATX Case

This was my first fanless case build, and it was pretty nice as to customize the air and any color with fans I know I like. Case seems very well built and the cabling system is very clean. Coming from a mini itx build, this case is a breath of fresh air. Ive got a 3600/RX570/Coolermaster Hyper 212 Black Edition, and it rarely breaches 45 degrees(CPU).

Honest first transaction

I bought a ring which was shipped very quickly, however I wish the details were more specific in stating the type of ring and the sizing differences. Quality of ring was nice and as expected but I ended up returning and the process was pretty painless. Cant be done via NE, you have to call the 800 number. Ill keep them in mind if I start to look for rings again.
