Excellent card / performance

EVGA 896-P3-1265-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
EVGA 896-P3-1265-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Pros: Great price to performance ratio for this nVidia product. EVGA quality and warranty, plus step-up program potential. Playing STALKER:Clear Sky currently and this card now makes the game very enjoyable in being able to turn on all the goodies (Sun Rays, yay, Sun Rays!) ;).

Cons: Had to use tin snips to cut a portion of my Antec Solo drive bay away to be able to fit the card in the case. I knew it was NOT going to fit before purchasing the card, so I was prepared with what needed to be done.

Overall Review: (1) I struggled a bit between going with the 192 vs 216 core versions. With prices down to the very low 200s on the 192 going up about 70 to get the 216 did make for some thought. In the end, the increase in benchmarks at given resolutions on games that I am playing made my mind up for me. (2) Yes, there are ATI alternatives out there, however, each time I've wandered over to the ATI camp to 'save' a bit of money, I've been burned by eithe driver issues, stability issues, or heat issues (or a combination of those). With nVidia things just work. Grab the refrence drivers, install and go. They just work.

Big capacity, cheap price, falls short though

LITE-ON DVD Recorder & HDD Combo HD-A760GX
LITE-ON DVD Recorder & HDD Combo HD-A760GX

Pros: • BIG HDD • Price • Seamless disc copy (DVD-HDD or HDD-DVD) (non retail discs...of course) • Plays some recorded discs that my previous JVC unit had trouble with (freezing, etc.)..the Lite-On just plows right on through

Cons: • Who thought up the ULTRA BRIGHT LEDs?!?!? Really, super bright blue and red...not good for a darkened HomeTheater at all!!!!!!! • Very slow menu response - more computer-like than stand alone player • NO DVI/HDMI (but I did know that going in) • Progressive scan image is too soft (compared to my two other progressive players in the house) • It has frozen solid a few times so far when trying to switch from HDD DiVX material to the "Guider" or "Contents" screens...this required a power cord pull to remedy. • None of my DiVX or MPEG-4 recordings will play appropriately on the unit. Audio is completely out of sync, badly. These recordings work just fine on the PC, my Palm T3, laptop..but just don't work well on the player. Sigh, that is a BIG dissapointment!!!

Overall Review: • I actually purchased this unit as a fill-in for the kid's play room until the TiVO series 3 unit comes out, which will replace one of the other TiVOs currently in the house (i.e., the replaced TiVO will go in the play room). The Guide+ is fine for recording Dora, Deigo, Blue's Clues, etc., but certainly does not hold a candle to the TiVO Guide for experience TiVO users. • The specs showed it could be hooked up using the RF output to the TV (no discrete inputs on kid's play room TV, just RF), and even shows you can hook it up that way in the instructions...however, on the back of the player itself it says it cannot pass DVD through the RF output. BIG dissapointment. • Overall, it is a 'good' unit, however, the inability to read my DiVX/MPEG-4 recordings properly, the HORRIBLY bright LEDs, and the slow response to commands pulls it down quite a bit. It is cheap, has big storage, and does copy discs well, however.

Good price on sale. Install was smooth. No hiccups for a new OS

Microsoft Windows 11 Home 64-bit, DVD
Microsoft Windows 11 Home 64-bit, DVD

Pros: Install went very smoothly with no bumps. I was expecting at least one hiccup. Very stable so far. Also impressed for a new OS.

Cons: Had to use W11 to get the full benefits out of my 12600K. Would rather have used W10.

Overall Review: While I have some small gripes about MS playing the W8 game with the interface again I do have to say it has been very stable so far. I am sure a few of my gripes can probably be fixed by finding out how to change a setting or three.

Price that fit the job reqired

Lenovo 19" 60 Hz LCD Monitor 5 ms D-Sub, DVI ThinkVision L197
Lenovo 19" 60 Hz LCD Monitor 5 ms D-Sub, DVI ThinkVision L197

Pros: Price, free shipping, looks brand new, perfect function

Cons: 1600x1050 would have been a plus but for the job this refurb is tackling its not really needed

Overall Review: Picked for a hobby bench monitor to swing arm mount (so it can ne pushed out of the way when not needed. I read / watch a lot oh DIYs / how tos / building and trobleshooting guide while working on entirely too many hobbies at the work bench. Having a monitor right there) rather than the other side of the room) is very convenient. Watch a little TV, a movie, a you tube "how to"; all so much niver with a cheap yet decent little monitor safely tucked up on a swingarm. Now I do not have to worry about my nice laptop getting smashed bt some random project I am working on.

Better than the original

Mass Effect 2 Limited Edition PC Game
Mass Effect 2 Limited Edition PC Game

Pros: More engrossing story than the original Mass Effect. Ability to import ME1 save games (if you remembered to save them) which includes a huge number of the conversation and decision points from your ME1 game for each character. Somewhat higher quality graphics and more detailed environmental development. More NPCs! Loyalty system!

Cons: Less world exploration. Redone Biotics/Tech powers, works, but I actually prefer the 'old' way. Heatsink 'clips' vs. overheating. I think I preferred dealing with overheating. I want my M35 rover back! ;)

Overall Review: The command buttons are changed a bit from ME1, which is quite confusing at first, particularly if you've played ME1 many times through. You get used to it, but I still hit the space and cntrl and shift bars expecting ME1 commands at times ;)

Blazing fast, great pick

Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 996599
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 996599

Pros: FAST @ DDR2-800 (4-4-4-12) -- Heatshields are a bit more robust than the basic XMS heatshields have been recently -- Good warranty

Cons: None (Price is up compared to a bit back...) -- I'd rather have an instant rebate than a mail-in one ;)

Overall Review: Due to recent issues with Cors@ir (my preferred RAM), I decided to give an old standby another try. Back in the PC66/PC100/PC133 days Mushkin made some absolutely fantastic RAM, but at the beginning of DDR (not DDR2, just DDR) they seemed to fall off a bit and I switched to Cors@ir. Prior to that however, Mushkin was in every gaming system, workstation, etc. that I put together and it just never failed to perform in excellent form. This new Blackline series is right back in the game. Running only at DDR2-800 speeds it is running at 4-4-4-12 with no voltage bump. Very, very pleased with those numbers.
