A solid case at a good price

GIGABYTE GZ-X7 Black ABS / 0.6 mm SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
GIGABYTE GZ-X7 Black ABS / 0.6 mm SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: This is my first build and overall I found this case easy to work with. The toolless build works really well. The case seems very sturdy, and overall seems like a good deal for the price. I like the appearance of the case. Solid black with a dark red stripe. Maybe some people out there like to get cases with flashing LED's and extreme spiders and aliens and whatnot, but that's not for me...

Cons: The instructions are extremely vague. Judging by other comments, this is pretty much the case with all cases, but for someone who is brand new to building computers (like me) this can be an issue. In particular, the bar that holds the expansion slot covers in was a bit tricky. You have to know to lift the bar up while you pull it out and this really isn't clear from the illustration in the instructions. Once you know what to do, it's no problem, but again the instructions are vague.

Overall Review: When I ordered this, UPS returned it to sender by mistake. I called them to have them hold my order at the station so I could pick it up there, but they only held one of the packages, and not the one containing the case. I called Newegg and explained what happened and how I was going to miss out on the mail in rebate due to this, and they gave me a 10 dollar credit to make up for it. I have been very impressed with the Newegg customer service.

Works well with Cubase

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro 70SB055A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card (Black/Silver) (Eng)
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro 70SB055A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card (Black/Silver) (Eng)

Pros: I use this primarily for audio creation, with programs such as Cubase, Fruity Loops, and Reason. This sound card is designed to work with Cubase, and it does like a charm. With my old computer, I would always have technical issues with Cubase, but with the Xi-Fi Elite, it's just a matter of selecting the sound card from the device menu, and then just plug and play from there for your audio inputs and midi. So easy!

Cons: Although I have been happy with the performance there are a couple of issues I unfortunately must point out. First, no phone tech support, only e-mail. For the price you are paying for this card, I would expect phone support. The e-mail support was fine, but it takes longer. Second, no XLR inputs... seems like they could've included that. Third, I have been having some software issues in Windows XP. The card works fine, but whenever I shut down or restart, it gets hung up for about 3 minutes before shutting down. Sometimes it gives an error message regarding one of the sound card .dll files and other times there's no message. Tech support was able to (mostly) resolve the issue, but it still pops up from time to time. So now it's kind of a cr*p shoot... whenever I turn off my computer it's either gonna shut down like it should, or every once in a while get hung up for about 3 minutes before shutting down. Not the end of the world, but pretty annoying when running updat

Overall Review: Overall, I am pretty happy with this product and would recommend it for those who use Cubase as their DAW. I wish I could give it the full 5 eggs, but the issues mentioned above I think are enough to bump it down to 4 eggs. So let's just call it 4 1/2 eggs for good measure. I haven't tried using the remote yet... don't really need to the way I have it set up. Man, I wish I would've waited until the $50 discount they are offering now!

No bad burns so far

Pros: Easy install. Fast burn speed. I have burned probably 20-30 CD's so far and I haven't had a failure yet.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: With a CD burner, what can you say really? Either it works or it doesn't. This one has worked 100% of the time for me so far. I have had issues in the past with CD burners for my laptops. They tend to have a lot of burn errors, and not last very long. So far this one has been great. Here's hoping it will continue to work well into the future.

Works great... good price

GIGABYTE SUPERB GE-P450P-C2 550W ATX12V V2.3 80 PLUS Certified Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

Pros: I bought this unit because it had all the connections I need. System: I-920 ASRock X58 Xtreme ASUS EN9600GSO Video card Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro (2) Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500 GB HD HP 24X Multiformat DVD burner For the setup I had, ASRock tech support recommended I use a 700 watt power supply. This one is only 550 watts and it works fine for me, so I was able to save a little money.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: Had the computer for about 2 1/2 months so far. No problems powering all the components. Hopefully this will continue to be the case well into the future. Recommended.

Works great for me

ASRock X58 Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock X58 Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This is my first build and I decided to go with the ASRock X58 Extreme because it seemed like a good value for the money and the reviews on Newegg were positive at the time. The instruction manual was helpful and the layout seemed simple enough. I had some issues on boot-up, but that turned out to be due to a bad video card, and not anything wrong with the MB. I called ASRock on Monday, and the person I talked to said it was a bad video card from the beeps it made booting up, and recommended getting a cheap video card from Best Buy to use until the RMA for the other card came in. I did that and was able to get the board up no problems. Well actually I also had a couple of things plugged in wrong, but again the customer service were very helpful in telling me what to do. The issue I have with the rest of this comments is the people being critical of the tech support. Every time I tried to call during business hours I got through quickly, and they were extremely helpful.

Cons: USB slots on the motherboard itself work great, but I had an issue when trying to connect the USB slots on the case to the MB. There are two separate places on the MB for this connection, and I was told by tech support it didn't matter which I used. However, I plugged in to one connection and it didn't work. When I plugged it in to the other connector, the USB ports on the case did start to work, but they are much slower than the USB ports on the MB. I also had problems getting the Instant Boot feature to work; my computer boots up extremely fast anyways, so no biggie. Another issue is that if you plan on using Windows XP with a RAID setup, you will need to have a floppy drive for the boot disk. There is no way you can set it up without a floppy, and as disks are more or less antiquated technology at this point (the Best Buy near my house doesn't even stock floppy drives anymore) I had to track down a floppy drive which I will probably never use again just to get my RAID work

Overall Review: Some minor issues with the USB connections (not worth RMA'ing though) aside, I have been extremely happy with this motherboard. Reading the other reviews on here, it seems like others have had some issues with DOA motherboards and with the warranty (that's lame that you only get a month) but fortunately I haven't had any problems. Been up and running for about 2 1/2 months now. I haven't tried overclocking yet, but the computer runs so much faster than my old one that I don't know if I will ever need to. Customer service was among the best I've encountered so I would definitely recommend this MB for an I-920 processor, especially if you don't want to break the bank.

Quality Hard Drive

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ/ST500DM005 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I got 2 of these drives set up in a RAID configuration with Windows XP. I have had them about 2 months and they both work great. Install was easy, and the drives do their thing with no problems. Hopefully they will last a long time. Excellent value for the money.

Cons: None.

Very nice doing business with them

They helped me out with my processor. Turns out I ordered the wrong generation processor and were willing to exchange out for the newer one. They were willing to work with me and pleasant to deal with.
