Fast, stable and what a workhorse

Intel Core i7-4790K - Core i7 4th Gen Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1150 88W Intel HD Graphics 4600 Desktop Processor - BX80646I74790K
Intel Core i7-4790K - Core i7 4th Gen Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1150 88W Intel HD Graphics 4600 Desktop Processor - BX80646I74790K

Pros: This thing scoots. This chip can handle everything i throw at it and then some. It still keeps impressing me. Well worth the money if you have to have a chip that can do it all.

Cons: This thing can make some heat. Overclocked it can make a LOT of heat. Have a good cooler if you plan on twisting this chip anything farther than stock turbo speed of 4.4. Never tried to factory heat sink so i do not know if it is capable of cooling it or not. Lowing voltages as much as possible helps.

Overall Review: makes it to 4.9 - 5 with everything on auto. Past that it takes some tweaking but it makes enough heat that i can't push it much past that anyway. Best I've done with it was 5.3 and it was getting hot so dumped prime before i could see if it would be stable. Air cooling so far. Maybe someday when i have more money and time i'll make a custom water loop for it but for now this does more than enough at stock 4.0. Would get this chip again without a second thought.

ASRock FM2A55M-DGS R2.0 FM2 AMD A55 (Hudson D2) Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock FM2A55M-DGS R2.0 FM2 AMD A55 (Hudson D2) Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: The bios interface is nice. Sound effects are bit much but i guess that's just the modern world. The construction seems solid and it performed very well with an A8-6600k. didn't get a chance to play around with overclocking like i was hoping but performance through this board was right on par. was able to update the bios over internet right in the bios.

Cons: the front bottom screw point is higher than normal micro atx. the case that i bought didn't have that hole and i had to make one for the standoff. not a huge issue and something that i should have caught in the pictures. bought it for the low price but was still rather disappointed that even at this price point that usb 3 wasn't available and sata 3 was also not available on this board. the tweaker utility in windows does not display accurate cpu temp. hardware monitor was displaying the temp in the 70C range and it was saying 32C. little bit of difference and not in a good way. the chip used was also in the approved cpu list. came with fairly outdated bios that needed to be updated before installing os. usb flash didn't work.

Overall Review: was not overly impressed with it. Between the useless tweaker utility that can't display correct temps and the outdated bios that the board came with wasn't very impressed. the usb jump drive update didn't work on this board either but it was able to hook directly to the net by itself and update. kinda a nice feature.

Fantastic case

ASUS TUF Gaming GT501 White Edition Mid-Tower Computer Case for up to EATX Motherboards with 2 x USB 3.1 Front Panel, Smoked Tempered Glass, Steel Construction, and Four Case Fans
ASUS TUF Gaming GT501 White Edition Mid-Tower Computer Case for up to EATX Motherboards with 2 x USB 3.1 Front Panel, Smoked Tempered Glass, Steel Construction, and Four Case Fans

Pros: - large case, will have no issues with space for large graphics cards, power supplies and CPU coolers - plenty of space to manage cables behind the motherboard tray. Almost too large of a space and some cable routing was not able to be as done as cleanly as I would like as the runs were too long for the cable to reach. Could also be an issue with the 12 year old 1200 watt PS that i had laying around that was used in this build. - plenty of space for fans/rads in this case. The build I did in this unit was a very basic cheap build so I didn't get to experiment with any water cooling or extreme air cooling. (that may come down the road when my friend upgrades.) - side glass is held in well and is not at risk of falling when removing the cover or transporting the case.

Cons: - power supply shroud is great for hiding cables but very close to the pass through holes below motherboard. This made it rather difficult to get some of the cables routed through. Had to remove the shroud to pass cables through and then try to install it pinched up tight to the pass through holes. All it would have taken is to move the mobo up 2 MM and would have made life much easier. - this is being rather picky but i would have liked it if the front IO wiring could have been brought down on the back side of the motherboard tray so that it could not be seen through the glass side window. - could use some more tie off points behind the motherboard tray. Routing can easily be done with what is there but i found myself looking for more tie points. - only has gromets on the 3 holes by the motherboard. Leaving the wiring holes exposed for the hard drive mounts, above motherboard, below motherboard (can't really see because of very tight space at bottom of board) and at the front top of the tray looks tacky. Personal opinion, but on a case that costs as much as this one does i would have expected a little bit more on the way of a clean bay. Add some grommets to the empty holes, redesign the hard drive cable holes as they are too big and obviously wide open next to grommeted holes.

Overall Review: Overall my personal opinion of this case is that it is a great case and I would be happy to build in it again. I'm attaching some pictures. (please ignore the zip tie i didn't cut.......) Would love to have the opportunity to build in it with some water cooling or even a higher end computer on air. This case has it in the looks department and my son has been begging me to buy this case for him since i finished this build. It comes with enough fans that with a simple machine you would not have any issues keeping it cool. Lots of space for extra large graphics cards and water cooling. Plenty of height to accommodate large CPU air coolers. I see potential for water cooling on this case as well. This case could be even better with just a little more attention to detail during design. At $180 I wouldn't consider this case a deal. The PS shroud is plastic, to close to bottom of mobo and could be broken after multiple R&I events. The mobo tray doesn't have grommets in every hole. Cable management on the back side is a little lacking. The huge open hard drive cable holes doesn't fit with the rest of the case. For those reasons I can't say that this is a 5 egg case. It's a solid 4 but falls short of a 5 at this price point. The current computer built in the pictures was a mixture of some parts donated by me, some purchased and some donated by a friend of mine. This whole system was built as cheap as possible to get another friend of ours into PC gaming.

Just what the doc ordered

EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 220-P2-1000-XR 80+ PLATINUM 1000W Fully Modular EVGA ECO Mode Includes FREE Power On Self Tester Power Supply
EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 220-P2-1000-XR 80+ PLATINUM 1000W Fully Modular EVGA ECO Mode Includes FREE Power On Self Tester Power Supply

Pros: I have had quite a few power supplies in my life. This one is by far the best I've used yet. Check the voltages and they are rock steady under any circumstances and it stays cool under pressure. The cables are nice and they have plenty of length to reach even if your power supply is mounted at bottom of the case. Lots of cables for whatever you could want to do. Very nice finish on the power supply case. The packaging is very nice as well. Comes with bags to store the power supply and the cables if for some reason you take it out.

Cons: None. it has been fantastic.

Overall Review: I have never bought anything from EVGA before but after doing some research decided to give them a chance in my new build. Glad i did.

Plextor M6e M.2 2280 256GB PCI-Express 2.0 x2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) PX-G256M6eA

Pros: Fast......Very fast...... Windows 8.1 loads in 20 seconds or better from full shut down. This thing is tiny. Not a whole lot bigger than a jump drive. Tuck it away nicely on the motherboard and amaze your friends with the speed. The numbers that they advertise aren't exaggerated. it will go that fast. Benchmarked drive at 735 mb/sec in my rig.

Cons: High price for such little space. Green?!?!?! didn't we get rid of that years ago??

Overall Review: Love this thing!!! The green is hidden by my graphics cards that cover it up nicely. Not sure why they stuck with green on a high end part like this but how much time do you really spend looking into your case drooling.

Poseidon would be proud

G.SKILL TridentX Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model F3-2400C10D-16GTX

Pros: Just slot it in the MB and change the settings in the BIOS. You'll be running at 2400 in no time. Good frequency and timing. Some very fast ram and 16 gig will give you a lot of overhead for almost anything that a home pc user could need. heatsinks can be removed.

Cons: They aren't free and with the heat sinks on they take up a lot of room.

Overall Review: have no issues with these sticks. Very stable at rated speed and they don't seem to get hot even under heavy ram usage. would recommend to anyone.
