G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-2133C9D-16GXH

Pros: Works well and as advertised, it's G.Skill

Cons: none

Overall Review: XMP profile worked like a charm with Asrock z77 OC Formula, running well with no issues. Have used G.Skill many times before and will continue to use them!

Most Critical Review

Watch out with ASUS nforce4

Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6V250F0 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6V250F0 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Once I got it up and running it was extremely fast. Write and read times are as good as my raptor, the only thing it is slower on is access time.

Cons: What a pain this thing was. There is a major incompatibility with this series of drives and Nvidias nforce 4 chipset, specifically if you have the nvidia SATA controller. I could not get the drive to work, BIOS would see it, but nothing could write to it. After tinkering and calls to maxtor who were unhelpfull at first, I figured out that jumpering it to the 1.5 gb/s setting allowed the drive to work.

Overall Review: I finally got ahold of someone good at Maxtor who was a Senior Lead Tech. At first they insisted that there was no firmware updates for this drive, but after two days the guy contacted me and said he had a new firmware version for me. After five days of no/limited use, this firmware patch allowed me to jumper it back to SATA II settings, and now it works great. Just make sure to ride Maxtor for a firmware update if you do get this drive.

Easy setup, solid so far

ASRock Z370 Taichi LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z370 HDMI USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Z370 Taichi LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z370 HDMI USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Booted first time with no issues. Flipped the XMP switch before first boot and it picked right up on my memory profile. Haven't played with OC'ing yet, but on the to do list. Impressed with the solid balance of features and performance. Had ASRock before, will keep buying. This review for ASRock review rebate program.

Cons: Out of the gate, the board is supplying too much voltage for stock frequency. I'm averaging around 1.3 volts and I've peaked at 1.4 volts. Too much and creates additional unneeded heat. I've read the 8700k should be able to run at stock with a decently reduced voltage. I'm being nitpicky though, as it is certainly something I can manually adjust.

Overall Review: This review for ASRock review rebate program.

Good case, huge

Rosewill - THOR V2-W Gaming ATX Full Tower Computer Case White Edition, Supports Up to E-ATX / XL-ATX, Comes with Four Fans
Rosewill - THOR V2-W Gaming ATX Full Tower Computer Case White Edition, Supports Up to E-ATX / XL-ATX, Comes with Four Fans

Pros: Huge case, room to run cables

Cons: Might need extra long cables due to size. Unable to use H100. Defective power switch.

Overall Review: I put a Asrock z77 OC Formula in this case along with a Corsair H80. I took off an egg as I really wanted to do a h100 where the top 230mm fan is, but the case design puts the top of the motherboard too close to be able to mount the h100 with enough room. Otherwise the case is huge and will hold anything you throw at it. Build quality is fairly good with only a few minor issues. The only major issue I had was that the power switch wasn't working out of box. Had to pull off the top, strip the wire and reconnect the two cables as they apparently hadn't stripped enough sheathing off at the factory and it was never making a connection. Took another egg off for having to do that. Assuming your power switch isn't broken, I think this is a really nice case as long as you don't want to use a h100.

Defective card

Galaxy 67NPH6DV5ZVX GeForce GTX 670 GC 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: good for the 2 to 5 minutes it works for

Cons: defective card that is causing constant crashes and screen issues

Overall Review: Shortly after putting together my new rig, I began having issues anytime I'd play a game. Constant driver crashes and resets along with screen artifacts. After a lot of troubleshooting and installing the card in another machine, determined it was defective. Hoping Galaxy support can help me...

CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750 W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready
CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750 W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: works well and Corsair support is awesome

Cons: none

Overall Review: the PSU works great, no issues. Corsair support is awesome too. I mistakenly didn't read close enough to see that this PSU did not come with an extra EPS 12v connector when my new mobo required it. When I called Corsair to see about ordering a new cable (and paying for it) they ended up shipping it to me for free. You can't beat that customer service. Thanks Corsair!
