I like it
Pros: Pleased with monitor, bright vibrant and screen is accurate and responsive to touch (good ole fingers). Monitor is hooked up to a micro PC running 64 bit Windows 7 Service pack 1. System is wall mounted in a kitchen (decent amount of sunlight). Main use is to tie into home network, internet, video conferencing. I do keep a wireless keyboard and mouse near the system but only use it perhaps 5 % time (filling out forms)
Cons: I avoided using the built in speaker, flat and low. Also while not a ding for the monitor, for wall mounting use a high quality mount. My first attempt (which is being replaced) has the monitor at a constant tilt down (again a hit for the mount, the monitor weighs in at 14lbs.. not a beast)
Ok for basic Video - expensive
Pros: Very low power (cool temps).. no noise
Cons: Cost and lack of good graphics performance
Overall Review: I currently run two of these boards in a dual – quad core processor. The four ( 2X2) DVI outputs go to four monitors. Supports basic desktop activities with no problems but does struggle to support my CAD activities and ranks extremely poor on Vista performance benchmarking. In retrospect I may replace one of the boards with a higher performance (but fanless) video board. For the cost I would probably look elsewhere
Happy with Purchase
Pros: This was my first purchase of a higher end espresso machine and I am quite pleased. Making a cup is all automatic. The espresso is rich and flavorful well above previous machines I have owned. I do like the simplicity, simply stick a cup under the spout and push a button. The frother does an excellent job, It takes me about a little over a minute to froth the milk quadrupling the original volume. DeLonghi customer support line was great, had to call them once when I could not get the infuser out, Customer support was courteous and walked me through the process.
Cons: Con: While the controls are OK some are not all that intuitive. Simply means I do have to reference back to the manual for some of the icons that pop up intermittently. But not that big of a deal everyday commands ( water, strength of blend, size of cup) are straight forward. Clean-up, while every day cleanup is easy(empty grounds, refill of water) the monthly cleanup can take a while. (remove the infuser and lots of wiping out of grinds from the cavities).
Good Sci-Fi
Pros: Great visuals during both the movies and even gameplay. The game world is huge with multiple planets to go and explore, there is even free downloadable content. The Battles are well laid out and the story is one of the best i have ever seen in a game.
Cons: Inventory screen takes a while to take care of for each member of your squard. Also the vehicle u use (the MAKO) is a complete fail and often times you may have trouble shooting certain targets.
Overall Review: If you like Sci-Fi, buy it.....
Good Purchase
Pros: A very clean and elegant solution to swapping out drives
Cons: none
Overall Review: I have 20 of these tray-less bays, to include 12 in my disk Raid box. These are very functional and I absolutely love the fact I can just open a door pull out a drive and put in another. No trays to worry about. Very little ‘slop’ when I put a drive in. Will continue to buy these. Still trying to get a feel for long term reliability.
Linux Issues
Pros: Low power consumption.. on Board VGA
Cons: Very Difficult to set up RedHat Linux
Overall Review: Unfortunately lots of problems trying to install Redhat Linux Enterprise 5.1. Install would repeatably fail. I had to flash the MB Bios to the current config (ver 1005 for the SAS board), still with no luck of installing RH Linux. After a day of troubleshooting the problem I determined it to be the onboard Volari XGI Z9 VGA chip. To overcome the problems went back to Redhat Enterprise Ver 4.6, installed which still had problems. However I was able to get into the Linux command line and update the VGA driver for RH (ver 4), this required me to burn a separate CD with the VGA driver(downloaded from the ASUS web site). After installing the updated VGA driver I then re-enabled the Linux xterm ( using the ‘gdm-restart’ command). I then upgraded the RH ver 4 enterprise edition ( it could only see one of the two processors) to RH ver 5. All in all a lot of work to get a rather expensive server motherboard to support Linux. Disappointed by the lack of documentation on the ASUS website.
