Question 1

This unit will go on a shelf about head-high.  Do CDs go in the very top of the unit?  Also, how "high tech" is this unit?  I'm replacing a unit for my parents, who are in their 70's and would like one easy to see and operate.  Thanks

You just lift the top cover open. You will see the 5-disc plate. Just load the CD onto the plate, close the lit. Then press play. You don't insert CDs like you do in the car. This unit is not high tech at all. It is a very basic stereo. No cassette tape player. Only CD and radio. The bottom you see in the front is just a remote control and AUX cable case.

does this unit have an input so I can play my turntable through it?

It has a 3.5mm male input on a 6 inch wire which is on the front. I think it is ideally set up for connecting mobile devices but with some adapters and gender changers you could do what you want. But it does have its own disc changer. Side note, this thing doesn't get very loud at all.

Question 4

Is there a system kind of like this one that might have Bluetooth (or may USB I'm guessing)?  Am wanting to hook up my Android phone to play radio stations.  We only have one; sometimes two stations out here in the boondocks.  Thanks.

it has no bluetooth, but it has AUX. the plug for the AUX is just like the headphone, so it should fit into your ipod or smartphone.
