Can you turn off the mouse acceleration of this mouse or it is it always on?

Yes mouse acceleration can be turned off via the driver program. You can do this with any mouse though, turn off "enhanced pointer precision" in Windows settings.

is the software and driver supported in windows 8/8.1?

Don't know, but, I had no problem driving the mousewheel down into the body of the mouse, since I use it to knife special weapon.....so, check on that....   replaced it with the death adder...which did the same, twice, before the last replacement is holding up real well.  They must have modified the construction.  DeathAdder's the mouse!!.....   counterstrike............
