I thought I read somewhere that this remote had a headphone jack. Wrong version, wrong info, wrong remote, or am I just not seeing it?

The 2 XS doesn't have that feature as it is the previous generation. The current gen Roku 2 and 3 do have that feature. FWIW, if you don't need the headphone jack, my refurb Roku 2 XS works great and flexible output and input w/ RF remote. No headphone jack and that's the only thing possibly missing. Newer models do have faster processors for snappier response but mine seems fine for typical use.

Does the refurbished model come with an orgiinal roku packaging?

Nope.  It came in a generic brown box.  It does contain all of the essential pieces from the original package, just not the colored box and I think it was missing some of the extra advertising literature. Do be aware that you may need to pair the remote to the unit, which is already done for you with the retail package.

Question 3

The picture does not show a 480i composite output, although the description says it has one.  Does it have a composite output, but the wrong picture?

It's not really a composite output per se ... There's a headphone jack on the back of the device, and it comes with a cable that splits it out to Yellow, Red and White.  So you can plug the yellow into the back of the TV and the Red & White into your speaker system (or TV).

How do I pair the remote that came with my refurbed unit?

Open the battery compartment and, while holding remote near the Roku Player, hold down the button inside the battery compartment for, I forget, I think it's between five and fifteen seconds. That should do it. If that doesn't work, go to Roku's website for their phone number, and call them. Cheers!

Does this have the headset jack in the remote?

I'm afraid not. The remote is capable of playing the Wii style games on the roku but does not have a headset jack.

How much wi-fi does it need for full HD resolution?  Dual-band N?

Yeah I guess the bottleneck is going to be the internet connection not the router.  Even an 11b router does 11Mb.  My sister-in-law has DSL which may be too slow for the Time-Warner cable application to replace cable boxes within the house.

Can you use a universal type Ifrared remote with this model?

Every Roku has an IR Receiver, even if it comes with a bluetooth or wifi remote. Harmony remotes work very well with the Roku.

Will this work on an old Box style TV thats 15 years old?

It depends.  The Roku 2 XS can output to either HDMI or RCA composite video/sound (yellow, white, and red plugs).  So if your older TV only has the coax signal input, then this will not work, but if the TV accepts the yellow white and red RCA inputs, then it will work.  The Roku setup also allows you to specify the TV's aspect ratio... either 4:3 or 16:9
