Yes, I watch you tube and more on it. Google Roku for their main site and look for the available channels. You can buy Play On and stream your media content to the Roku as well as see most of the major channels. I got rid of my cable with this and Play On.

Is there a subscription fee in addition to the purchase price?  I watched a setup video on YouTube that said the registration process required a 'Payment Method' i.e. PayPal etc.

"Payment Method required to register" does not mean you have to pay to register. It means you give a credit card number or PayPal so if you decided to subscribe to Netflix or other "pay channels" Roku can charge you automatically.

The app is available for free.  For a complete list of available channels go to the Roku dot coms web site.  Some cable channels are available but they require you to have a streaming account set up with your cable provider.  You can pass through your login information to Roku, they will mask/encrypt (****) your password for security.  They do this for all the channels that require an account.  You can also contact Roku customer service and they are happy to answer any of your questions before purchase.  My mother calls them often (chuckle).

Some free channels - Fox news, ESPN Sports, There are "free" movie channels that show "uncut" movies but include commercial breaks - blah.  I pay for Netflix and the Roku3 does HD streaming and connects to my wireless router's 5 khz band and it's amazingly fast.  Also I bought the dual band router from Newegg when it was on sale :)  Also note the ear buds include changeable ear pieces and if used heavily will drain your two AA batteries I recommend investing in rechargeable batteries.  Search Newegg for them I'm sure they carry them or one of their partner companies will.
